Transmission cables at transmission bracket

I did a clutch job a few months ago and have a question about mounting of the shift cables. I know that the cables are held down by cotter pins but I believe that there were supposed to be washers of some sort there too.

Does it make a difference whether or not the washers are there? If so, what kind of difference. Also how do the washers mount? Do they go between the cotter pin and the cables or under the cables?

The washers are there from the factory so I'd say it's best to use them. They go on the side with the cotter pins, probably so the cable can move more easily and doesn't snag the pin or bend it or something.

to answer your question[hope this helps] the shift cable goes on first, then the washer, then the cotter pin

The washers are there to keep the linkages from walking off over the cotter pins. STM | STREET TUNED MOTORSPORTS | DSM | EVO | SUBARU | PERFORMANCE & DYNO TUNING sells them pretty cheap unless u have a dealer around sumwhere. Regular washers will work if you just want to hit up the local hardware store but i always go with original parts.
