I have a 92 awd auto with an output shaft that will not come out of the transmission. I tried to take it out when the engine was out of the car but I gave up. The shaft is the one that goes from the transmission to the transfer case, I think it is called an output shaft.

Since I have to take the transmission off anyways I thought I would replace the output shaft seal in the bell housing of the transmission.

I pulled pretty hard on it but it wouldn't pop out. Is there something special that I have to do to get the shaft to pop out? I have heard of a ball bearing or something that may have to be taken out?

I got the trannsmission off last night and the output shaft has about 1/2" in/out play.

When I first got the car, the output shaft wasn't installed in the transmission. I just popped it in. Would the shaft just slide back out if the ball wasn't in there now? Do I need to worry about this output shaft play?
