Transfer Case Woes (PICS)

oK, I bought a transfer case off of a guy on the trader. I was told it was a 23 spline, which I believe it to be, I counted. Also it does slip onto the output shaft on the tranny. Apparently the spline count isn't all that matters, because it won't bolt up. 2 of the botom holes line up, 2 are close, but obviously won't work, and the rest are waayy off.

I was TOLD it was off of a 1G. Can any 2G owners confirm that the second pic is a 2G x-case?

I know that 97-99 is different than the 95-96...

Can you make out any part numbers... like on the t case adapter housing (midsection) ....


Also do all 3 of the bolts in the cast iron front section line up?

I'll have to look next time I'm where my car/engine is.

The top two are way off, but the middle bottom ones line up, the other bottom one is half-on.

Looks to be an automatic transmission transfer case you have there. 95-96 are different than the 97+ by way of a gear ratio change, not external demensions.

I have never seen a slush box case so that is it...

IMHO... Id grab the service manual and rebuild the old one using the good parts of the one you have now...

Nope
According to VFAQ... they have the same gears in the t-case.

That would be a good idea if i had an old one. I bought the car with no engine/tranny, and my tranny didn't come with the xcase.

That right there I can safely is a 2G A/T transfer case. My 97 GSX has that thing.
Gave me a head-ache because it has one more bolt holding it than the manual ones do. I believe it's 7 instead of 6 or 6 instead of 5. Everyone told me 5/6 bolts, I took off the bolts, that fscker stayed put until I found that last one hidden.
It looks pretty much identical to mine. I had to take mine off to replace the oil pan gasket.
If I am mistaken, which could be the case, the only other reason I had trouble getting the t-case on was the fact that I had the hand-brake pulled.

That is a 1g automatic transfer case!

I can confirm this....

FYI - The 23 spline 1g MTX transfer case will work on the 23 spline 2g MTX.

I have a 92 23 spline xfer w/95 tranny on my 98 GSX.

The 97-99 trannies require 97-99 transfer cases.

The 95-96 can use same spline count 1g transfer cases.
