Tranny opinions

Well I went to the track the other day, and my stock tranny has a couple holes in it now.... I would love to have a shep stage 2 or tre tranny with a real lsd.... I just wanted to get everyone ones opinion on different set ups.... Has anyone dealt with a rip grip type lsd how do they hold up? Are they worth it? Will it just break again? Im just looking for some feed back on the setup your running to help me out....Thanks alot This is for a 2g gst....

You want something that wont break, go with the Quaife ATB front diff.

Rip grip not recommended last time I talked to Jon @ TRE. Something to do with the springs or some such thing being a potential failure mode for the rest of the tranny. We had a discussion and the latest trend is the EVO3 rear differential retrofit being the "cats meow", supposedly as much improvement as any high dollar front differential upgrades, plus only $500-$800. Jon has all the details.

Regarding front differentials, I do have an STi and the driving characteristic of the active differentials is aggressive. You typically need to go banzai into a corner, then it'll push for a few feet, then lockup and drag you thru the corner. Typically this means you need to hit the inside of the turn to allow some distance for understeer before the front end bites down hard. The other thing is a nasty yank of the steering wheel when the differential "locks up", it'll nearly rip the wheel out of your hands. The upside is some pretty insane corner exit speeds. I'm not rich enough to afford it on my GSX, but I get it free on my STi.
