well my car is now needing a new transmission and i already got a new one. but i wanted to hear what people thought of how hard it is to do yourself? ive done a 1g fwd and it was not pleasant at all. the transmission was so tight trying to get back in. so any opinions are welcome!

Oh it's not that bad if you have some experience with it. I've done mine in the rain once. It helps to have a jack to hold the transmission up while sliding it on. Also, I like to give it a firm kick from the passengers fender well when it's being stubborn.

I can stab an awd 1g trans in less than 2 minutes without any tools but my hands. I used to use a hoist but they aren't heavy like the getrag units on the 3kgt's. Lean over the fender and in a rowing motion pick it up by the shifter cable bracet and the front of the midcase. Stick it on until it slides on with a clank, and run one of the bolts in it by hand to hold it so it doesn't rest on the clutch plate. Or if your not very strong you can hook the hoist to the shifter cable bracket and it will balance almost perfect.

I just swaped out a tranny in my 1g AWD. Mine is also a 91....wasn't that bad at all. I didn't slide it in alone though had a man underneath guiding while I was standing over the fender. Got it done with ease.

It's pretty much same as fwd, except you have to bolt up tcase and unbolt/bolt up downpipe.
It's not that difficult and can be completely removed/installed in less than 2 hours.

First time and second time's always take the longest. I can have my tranny out and clutch replaced in 30 minutes now. The first time was a pain though.
