So I just pulled my tranny and as im looking around and cleaning her off I find a hole right below the axle. Can I have the hole welded or do i need a whole new tranny? Any input helps

Location kinda looks like.... Something Axle Related. Maybe someone used the wrong kinda clamp for the boot and it came off and spun around soo fast it broke a small chunk out of the trans?

Ya Kinda looks like something go jammed between the halfshaft and and trans while driving?

loss any tools recently? LOL

If anything check out the fluid for any shavings or contaminants... looks like it would be fairly easy fix just welding it its a fairly small hole.

Lol no tools are missing. and the bad part was when I took the tranny off there was no fluid I went to go drain it and nothing but a drip cam out :notgood: So I couldnt really check for shavings.

Open it and check it inside just to know if everything it's ok and then send it to fix with nothing inside it's the best you can do

I think that hole should be the least of your worries if there is no oil in it. It is likely a good paper weight at this point.

Seen that before. That's an aluminum case and take someone with skills to weld aluminum. Besides that transmission has a loose chunk inside. That hole is where the metal was caught up in the gear, I would be surprised though if the object inside didn't eject itself out with the missing piece as well. I would be surprised if it could hold up to any epoxy or even be welded/ siliconed. You may just try to grind it to a rounder hole and somehow make a cap or plug of some sorts, say now you have an extra fill tube install mod..j/k... Looks like I would take it to a re builder see if it tore up the internals. If not all you need is a case which should be easier on the budget or I would go with new just to be on safe side.

The hole is smaller at the bottom the piece couldn't have fallen in, It looks like it happened from the outside. That could be welded up no problem.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Im just wondering how the internals are from not having any fluid in there. It didnt pop out of gear or grind before i took it off, it just made a grinding noise whenever my foot was off the clutch. Wondering if it can be reused

Yes it can be welded. I how ever disagree to me it looks like it came from the inside. There are no marks on the surrouding surface that show something jamed between axel and the transmission. To me it looks like some thing inside got slung into the case.

Analogy: If you shoot a pice of thick glass with a bb gun the out side will have a hole the size of the bb the inside will pop out and make a half inch or so hole. Same as a rock chip in your window. It will make a mark on the outside and you see a 1/2 inch or so circle around it. The outer pain of glass has broken away in the same manner as the bb in glass. The only reason you do not get glass in your car is that there are 3 layers to the windshield so the shards get trapped.

I did notice it was getting louder but it sounds like a tob failure so I just focused on that until i went to drain it. But there was no gear oil everywhere
