tranny mount

Well i searched but couldn't find a strait answer. Is it possible to change out a tranny mount (because I'm putting Prothane's in) without having to drop the tranny totally. And if so how, i think i have an idea on how i should be done, i just want to make sure I'm right before i spend the time trying to do it and I'm wrong.

Well I don't have a 2g but it can't be a much different process than a 1g. The answer to your question is no. All you should have to do is loosen the bolts that connect the mount to the top of the transmission. Prob a couple or few of them. Next just loosen the bolt that secures the mount to the frame of your car. That should be all you have to do. Good luck

When I put Prothanes in my 2G I actually removed the lower cross member that the tranny bolts to and put a jack under it. I then removed the bolts for the trans mount and started lowering the trans little by little until i had enough room to get the mount wiggled out. Hope this helped, good luck.

98 mits is correct . . . remove the crossmember & the front mount near the slave cylinder. Then, remove the through bolt from the rear mount. Now, the engine & trans are just suspended by the two side mounts (the 1 by the timing cover, & the 1 on the trans on the opposite side). Now, the engine/tranny will rock front to back super easy, allowing enough room to remove the rear mount. Also, I removed the speedo sensor to make it easier, but that`s your choice . . .
