When i am at idle and i press the clutch in to put the car in 1st gear, if i don't wait a second or two, it grinds. i know the tranny oil is topped off, could the syncros be gone or going? if i wait a couple seconds after pressing the clutch, it goes into gear fine, no issues. any ideas?

It is sounding like the syncros if you were moving. Have you checked for any leaks around the slave and master cylinder? Look around the boots and behind them as well. You may have an air bubble towards the end of the clutch line (slave cylinder). You press the clutch in, the bubble hits and doesn't move the clutch fork anymore. Let it rest and the bubble moves further back and you get more fluid to use and you can now shift. It's a plausible theory right now.

Your synchro is done. When the ring is bad the slider will slip past too early and crash on the gear engagement teeth before the gear is synchronized.
