Alright to start I bought my dsm back in july. When I bought it there was a extra large bottle of brake fluid in the trunk I was like ok whatever. But now im beging to think. I drove it probly 1000 mile with no problem. Than the engine went out on me. For the 100 prior to the engine blowing my 3rd gear grinded a couple of times and it never did before. Now I have the engine rebuilt back in the car. When I first started it I went to put into first gear and it would grind. I bleed the slave cyclinder and it worked fine. Now 3rd gear is starting to grind agin. My thought it I have a clutch line leak somewhere, Or the 3rd gear synchro is bad. Im leaning more toward the leak because of the extra brake fuid that came with it, And after it sat it got worse.

Does this sound like a leak or bad sychro?

Oh and the tranny has fresh sycromesh fluid in it and is not low. Also has brand new clutch and flywheel and throwout bearing.

the more you drive the car the more your sychros will wear out, but you said you replaced the clutch with everything. no that throws everything off.... first off what clutch is it? and once you answer that we can determine better for you and give you a better "online diagnosis". it could be that the clutch is just in need of some adjustment also. where is the point that the clutch starts to engage, catch, grab whatever you call it? is it at the bottom (closer to the floor) or at the top (right before foot is basically off the pedal? now another thing did you change the fluid after you blew that motor, was it a different fluid before you started having problems? truthfully i wouldn't worry about 1st grinding just give it a second or two after you push the clutch in then put it into 1st.
it could also just be a worn out slave or master cylinder, or other parts of the pedal assembly/ trans like a pivot ball and a fork who knows the possiblitys are endless. but first i need some more info on what clutch you have exactly like sprung hub or rigid, six puck or full facia disc.


and last i have a story, a friend of mine had been complaining tht his 5th gear would grind so i siad take me for a ride and sure enough he ground it a few times. so i say let me take it out... i go to throw it in ther hard fast slow everything, caught it every time no grinding. are we sure where not just missing third????:D
 
I'm very curious about what turns out to be the cause. My third gear started to grind the day my motor blew.
 
Is the clutch fluid level noticeably lower? Your synchros probably do need to be replaced but that is true for any car pushing 16 years. You might just need to adjust the shifter linkage. Like rb25det510 said the point were the clutch engages will help a lot for diagnosis.
 
I bought a xtd 6 puck clutch off ebay. I know I went cheap but its the same problem I had before I even put that clutch in. The point where my clutch engages (starts to grab) Is about 1/4 of the way up from the floor. Im not sure of What fluid was in before the syncromesh. Im pretty sure Im not missing 3RD I drove it with grinding any gear for a month or what ever than with in 5 miles 3rd gear like 2 or 3 times.
 
Bleed the clutch's hydraulic system. If that does not help then adjust the master cylinder rod under the dash to change the clutch engagement. If you have any bad hydraulic parts like the slave or master replace them or get a rebuild kit. The slave will need to be repaired if when you pull off the small black boot fluid comes out. The master will leak on the fire wall and sometimes on the inside firewall and carpet.


Hey when you have a lot of miles on that clutch do a product review, I also bought a cheap clutch and it is holding up good but I only have 600 miles on it so far.
