when I bought the car 10 months ago my TPS was fairly new but I guess the mechanic broke the metal pin/clip to hold it, so on the highway it disconnected and I hear this loud whirrrrrrrr sound. I quickly pull over and I noticed around 20 mph the sound went away. So besides needing to get that fixed what the hell was that sound?? Almost sounded like my transmission was being disconnected from my engine, sorry I don't know how else to explain it.

EDIT: Also I have an automatic so I know how greatly the TPS is tied into the TCU.

Doesn't answer your direct question but a good fix for the lost clip is to use RTV. Just add some into the harness and press into place. It'll hold it pretty well.
