ok guys here is my delima...i have a 91 gsx that has been stripped for track use only. to avoid the cost of a trailer and since i have room to store a trailer this is an option that i am looking at. i have removed the bumper support to reduce weight front and back. any ideas on how to install the to bar so i can get it to the track safely and removeable once at the track? i can take the bumper off and on that's no big deal. any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!:thumb:

Page 106 of my 1990 Eagle Talon OWNER'S MANUAL states , and I quote:

"Your car may be towed by a tow truck. Do not attempt to be towed by another car with a rope using tie-down hooks. Tie-down hooks should not be used for towing purposes. When your car is towed by a tow truck, raise the front wheels (front-wheel drive cars) or front and rear wheels (four-wheel drive cars) should be raised. Proper towing equipment is necessary to prevent damage to the car."

I'm still looking for any pics of it I have, but here are some of things to do if you car has a hitch:

Here is some so-so closeups of the part of the towbar on the blue GSX. I'll keep looking, as I have some better ones somewhere.

Ugh, I know you are just trying to be helpful with the pictures, but even in the event that the car COULD be towed, you would need a second driver in the rear car with all four wheels being on the ground. And thats not very practical. Just buy a cheap trailor.

If we played by the manual, we'd all be driving around on 12psi and shifting at 5K. The manual is merely a safe guard. In general, 99% of tow trucks tow with one set of wheels on the ground. For AWD cars, obviously this is not good. Thus, their logic for specifying they be towed with all four wheels off the ground.

No second driver is needed for the vehicle being towed. For the past 6 years, I've moved all my cars, 16 in all, by this method. Six of them, I've towed a distance of 1400 miles each. Beleive me, this can be done and done safely if care is taken.

Any other reason why it can't be done?

For those patient, I can get some nice close-ups of the setup. However, it might not be until this weekend until I can get them. In the end, the front bumper cover doesn't need to be removed.

Towing the vehicle at speed in neutral will make the front and rear diffs spin, The front diff may not get enough fluid onto it during this time as the other gears won't be helping to move it around as well and could cause excess heat to build in the diff and take out the transmission.

With the front diff spinning, the intermediate shaft spins, along with particular sections of the input gear cluster. This is more than enough for adequate lubrication.

How's 5 years of patience? Ha ha. I know this thread may be dead, but does anyone have any pictures or instructions for hooking up the front of a 1G DSM with a tow bar? I'm selling my rolling shell GSX. The tranny is already gone and the driveshaft has been removed for transport. The guy I'm selling it to is bringing a truck and a tow bar in two days. He has asked me to remove the front bumper for transport as well. Is this necessary? Thanks for any help.
