I have a stock 97 2g gst, and i am putting an evo III turbo on within the next couple of weeks, should i get a boost controller, and i wanted to know if i turn my boost up obviously after i get a walbro fuel pump, how much boost can my engine handle, i mean it has 91,000 miles but i only drive it on friday and saturday and i have done oil changes every 2,000 miles depending on how many times i have raced on the oil, but i dont wanna over boost my engine and kill it.

The motor can physically hand a lot of boost w/ the supporting fuel mods, but considering you are stock I wouldn't run more than maybe 13lbs w/ out datalogging it to see if it is knocking.

I am currently running 17 lbs of boost w/ the stocker turbo, so i think the evo III has a lot more boost im sure, but i was wondering if i should pull out the motor and change my pistons and do motor work???

Is your mod list up to date???

How are you running 17pounds if you don't have a boost controller. No You definately don't need do internal work to support the evo turbo. You will however need the proper supporting mods to have things running properly. Most people wouldn't suggest turning even the t25 up that high until you get some rid of some restriction. I would highly suggest opening up the exhaust side before you start turning up boost. But Here is the tuning guide for the 2g. It basically gives you a step by step on what you need. you don't have to worry about internal work for a while. And you are right about the evoIII being able to handle more boost. Don't go slappin that thing on and thinking you can turn it up more, cause your engine can't handle it yet. You may blow something.
