posting here because I feel like a noob for not researching turbos enough yet, so im looking for some opinions. move the thread if need be.

My future plans I would like to have at least 500 awhp on pump gas, so were talking fully built race motor, trans...everything. it will be a nice car.

So recently my turbo blows, and now my car hardly runs, I NEED to fix it this weekend, if I order a turbo today, I can have it at my door friday.

I was all for getting the hx35 from bullseyepower, it can do 500 on pump and gives me a lot of room to grow. Many friends and others say that even though I dont complain about lag and such things, im going to hate this turbo right now, and to get something like the t04b v-trim instead. id save about $400 right now (use it towards tuning/fuel) but may lose a little later on down the road when I need a bigger turbo. I see where they come from because things do happen so you have no idea how long untill I get that race block and support mods, and id have much better spool and usage on my 7 bolt.... but I also see my point of the arguement, buy once buy right.

What do you guys think? and please spare the dont get the turbo untill I have the support BS because i know, but I need the turbo right now, i just wont hammer it untill I do.

i was in the same situation and im in the process of selling my Big16g in order to get the t04b vtrim. i wanted the hx-35 but it would be unethical since im on a budget, i run 91 pump and im on a stock internal 7-bolt. i have all the other supporting mods but i still think it wouldnt be a good street turbo compared to the v-trim. i guess its all personal preference.

yea, im not really on a budget but I dont know how long it will take me, and I run 93.

I can technically grow into both, I just either take the risk of buying a turbo twice, or take the risk of the turbo being to big to be practical right now.

If that is your future goal, then which is more important to you? Saving money, or temporary ineffeciency until you get the rest of your mods? If your goal of 500awhp on pump gas is in your near future, then I wouldn't think it's logical to buy a turbo twice if thats what you REALLY want. Set your goals for certain first. Know that you are going to go that route no matter what. That I think will help you decide if you should go for the big turbo, or just be satisfied for something 'less'. If you're not "really on a budget", then I guess it wouldn't matter. You could always just sell the to4b used here and only be out few hundred bucks.

I was in the same situation until, last night, i was going to get a really good deal on a v trim but the dude that was selling it,sold it to somebody else and after really thinking, i am going to get all my supprting mods first for a larger turbo. I mean i am on just a 14b now, but alot of people i know have gone out and brought bigger turbos and didn't have all the supporting mods they needed to have the car run properly and then wished they would of wait until they got all the supporting mods. I am looking at the hx-35 and simular turbos in the near future but right now the 14b with all the supporting mods will do me just fine. If i can find a super cheap 16g but other than that i am going to wait

Thats what I was going to do but then I found that my turbo is toast when I did a leak down test, so now my car hardly runs and gets terrible gas milage.

I was going to get a 14b but its like a complete waste of $300 to me, so I just went ahead and got the to4b.

DSMlink (and injectors and a fuel pump) is about to be ordered I just need to check my ecu and then send it out, hopefully they turn it around fast, fuel cut is going to suck

Were you looking at the v-trim on dsmtrader for $350?? I just bought that. I hope it's going to be good for me. It was bolt on to mitsu manifold and o2, internally gated. I'm on 14b right now too. What is about the max lb/min and g/sec you guys are running? I've got this wierd power loss/fluctuation after 5500 rpm and i think my wg is opening on me. I unhooked the wg reference pressure and still only make 20psi. oh well.
Thanks,

no it wasnt, I bought mine brand new.

im not running a 14b but I can say I was getting 0-2 PSI off my t25 :sneaky: cant mess with the beast ROFL
