to dump or not to dump?

A friend of mine built be an externally dumped o2 housing ($100 in parts from RRE). The sound is an acquired taste, and the concept of "Sleeper" is out the window. I definitely like it, though. It's a real attention grabber. Just don't grab the attention of your local law enforcement.

I have a STUPID question. Sorry if it's already been asked. If i go with a o2 housing elimanator downpipe is there still a hole for the o2 sensore to go in or not? I'm talking about the one made by VRS and sold at DSMotorsport.com.
thanks

i ran with my catback off for about a week. my firends car with O2 dump seemed unaturally quiet, so take your exhaust off and drive around like that. if you can deal with that much noise(but only under boost), then the dump is for you.

oh, and i have a ported 2g o2 housing on my small 16g. with the catback off i get a lot of creep. like up to 25psi.

i would definatly gat the o2 dump, sounds great. the only way to get rid of boost creep is to get the exhaust gases to relieve as much pressure hitting the turbine blades as possible. first, make sure you have a good boost controller , and no leaks in the lines to the wastgate. then make sure the wastegate is opening properly(i was getting horrible boost creep because th previous owner put washers behind the wastegate diaphram bolts to "shim" it out) get rid of your 1g o2 housing, its junk.

Mine dumps and I love it... I took a friend of mine for a ride in it the other day and when we got back home he said... wow, your car is really fast, but i think you have an exhaust leak up in the front..... I just thought it was hillarious!!

It has been proven that dumping to atmosphere on a large turbo will give you an icrease in power. But I doubt that the average person buying these with T25s, 14bs, and 16gs are outflowing thier exhaust, especially if they bought a 3" ;)

What if a person wanted to run an o2 dump with a stock cat back since the T25 is soooo small wouldn't this be a temporary alternative to buying a catback? Only on a T25 of course though.

Umm...an internal dumping sounds stock, I meant to atmosphere? I wanted to know if an internal dumping would "snap" on like how it sounds in the video. Or do they slowly open instead?

I have to disagree, an external dump sounds like crap. We have built lots of cars with external dumps and I would say 75% of the guys come back asking to have it put back in because they got annoyed with the sound after time. That and everybody and their dog could hear you hitting boost.

Whatever happened to "Go fast with class"? Have the sound of a broken exhaust is not exactly class.

On the flip side, I did think it was cool at first as well and wanted it for my car. After about 15 minutes I was so annoyed that I had to get outta the guys car. Everybody behind him too complained that his car stank really bad too and nobody wanted to drive behind him on the highway too.

LoL i love the dump sound makes the guy raceing next to you trying to drive and hold his ears LOL with are bloody after boost kicks in

Dump on a T25?? Hell no, to much noise for going slow.

Does anyone else notice this is on a T25? I highly doubt your getting "Creep", I bet your getting spike and are just confused.

Spike is on small turbos. Boost jumps high and then falls down at higher rpms.

Creep-16g's and bigger. Lack of wastegate flow/restriction. Creep is when boost hits what its set at ~15psi and then "creeps" at higher rpm and doesnt fall back down like "spike".

Example:
I put a 2.5"dp and test pipe on my unported sm 16g. Once winter hit I got creep. I'd set it to 15psi and ~5000rpm it would creep to 20psi every time regardless of profec B settings, sharp/mild.

So I pulled the turbine housing/mani/o2 off. Ported the turbine housing and the wastegate area and went f'n nuts on the o2 housing. Creep was better, but still would creep to 17-18psi. 450's/smic and 91 octane dont like 18psi on 4th gear pulls.

Next step was a 34mm flapper from FP. Installed the flapper and open the WG hole for the bigger flapper.

Creep was gone. That was good for a little while and then I said f'it and built a 2.5"o2 w/a 1.75" dump for the internal gate.

Total cost was ~70 using all RRE parts.

And to everyone #@%#@%#@%#@%#@%ing about dumps. I've yet to have someone say they dont like it. Usually its "thats badass". Even competitors like it.

It gets respect because the domestics have no idea what it is, but scars them.

Fast w/class? I've got mandrel 2.5" o2/dp/tp/catback, my car is quiet by full dsm exhaust standards and will outflow a 3" turbo back because a good all of the WG gas is dumped.

2.5" for the turbine outlet only from blade to tip
and 34mm and a 1.75 pipe for the WG.

Add that up to a 3" T-back.

ya Im a newb to the turbo scene and I love all the loud nosies from a turbo car the spool the bov and the dump I cant wait!

i have my dump om my t28 and its awsome id recomend it to everyone only problem with it is when the honda boys here it they dont want none LOL

I love the sound of the dump so far but Im starting to wonder what its gonna sound like with the windows down in the summer.. its not only gonna scare everyone else around, itll prolly scare me :)

How does a internal wastegate with dump tube sound comparing a real O2 mounted external gate? Alot of people people said they installed some O2 housing with dump for internal gate, it's so loud they have to close the window, make their ear bleed etc.

I just installed an external gate and it didn't seem that loud, everyone can hear you, but windows down it's ok, it's a bit cleaner sound than those in the video of the "internal wastegate /w dump". Has anyone heard both in person?

You just hit the nail on the head.
A dumptube will increase performance, period. This cannot be argued.
You can get a 3" exhaust, and be loud ALL the time, or get a dump tube and 2.5" exhaust and be loud only at full boost. I'll take option #2.

Look at the link I posted about 8 posts above yours. It's an internally gated 14b with a dumptube from the 02 housing. I love the sound of it, even with the windows down I think its tolerable.

same here sounds great with the windows down ...even better when you only get on it half way and the $hit growls up to the red line =)
