To Dump Or Not To Dump

i think a dump tube is like when a honda v tec motor hits v tec. my buddy has one will really make your neighbors hate you when you leave your house with a dump tube if you get on it. has its own sound but will terify people when at the track or the light to light eventure.

Now that we're clear on that...

If I didn't live in CA, I'd dump it. However, the Smog Nazi's are pretty harsh here and quite a few locals have been sent to the smog ref for less. So, if you live in CA and don't want to change your O2 housing at the whim of the local fuzz, recirculate. If you don't care and want that loud blat that scares old people out of the fast lane, dump it.

how would it terify people at the light? A dump tube is only heard when the wastegate is oepn, and i dont see it being open at a light. Dont post useless information, BTW, its VTEC, not VTECH :notgood:

I think the 02 dump sounds like ass.I would use it for performance if it would net me any any at the track, thats it.other than that it's more annoying then those nasty sounding hondas.

I'd say dump it! I love the sounds, and I hate the R word. The R word can be used when theres a corolla with a spoiler and purple window tint and a neon light exhaust. IF you like it then you do it man, but if it will most likely screw your car then thats up to you. I would do it if I had a car :) But thats just my opinon. BTW had to throw in pics :p

Then again driving a bright orange car with red flames and F&F body kit prol has nothing to do with it

To each their own, but this 30-something year old would rather drive a fast car quietly and keep driving ;)

Ok. Mr. it's wrong if it's not stock looking.... thanks for the off topic rant. Drive your fast car quietly past a cop with a radar and get pulled just the same. As far as I know, "speed" gets you the speeding tickets. How about we stay on the "to dump or not to dump" topic. At least that way some useful info, and not your'e childish (especially for a 30+ year old) statements can be given.

By the way... my car is yellow, not orange... And yeah the cops pull me over all the time cause it "looks fast". What a dip. Maybe you should check my mod list and stop watching Celica commercials.

You can't even try an help someone without an a$$ buttin in these days...

:talon:

Hate to admit it but oldman it right. On a small turbo like a 14b or 16g dumping is pretty well a waste of time. Your only making noise not power, leave the noise to the honda guys.

What ever happened to "Go fast with Class?" DSM's have lost their Class in the last few years. Oh how I miss the late 90's and early 00's where DSM's were still too expensive for kids to buy.

I have a 50trim with Tial 38mm external wastegate and guess what, it's welded back in my exhaust, these pics are before the Tial 38mm gate tho, thats an older 35mm. Not only is it welded back in, but I made it all myself bitches...

Painted it up afterwards and it looks just like the ceramic coating on my manifold and turbo housing. No dump noise, lots of speed...

hee hee... If your car is yellow then whose car is in your sig? Looks orange to me. :D

:laser:

HA. It's 03' Mazda sunburst yellow. It's really deep, and when the sun starts to set (like in the pic) it looks deeper still.

This thread is pretty much done. If he doesn't mind the noise he should get it. If he does, he should go another route, or spend the time to fab up parts, like DSMJim to make it quiter. It's gonna be that simple in the end. Personally I don't mind mean and loud, as long as it's fast. Others want it quiet, (or as quiet as a 3" exhaust and turbo spool can be). It's gonna come down to personal opinon. Either way is the right way... even if only to him.

Wait, so your telling me when you hear a viper rev up that nice V10 engine you don't say "nice", or something ot that extent. Just because you have a dump, doesn't meen you can't have class.

To re-word my comment, a pink elephant in a tutu will get noticed just as much without the tutu ;)

I've owned my DSM for 15 years, have tried the dump (VP) on several diff turbos including my current 50-trim and taking it off each time. If sharing my firsthand experience is immature then fine. At least I can spell, use correct punctuation and still run circles around your dumped O2-equipped car :D

Now to go pick on Newbies looking to vent their BOV :sneaky:

So you don't like the sound, no big deal. The immature part came in when you said something to him that was totally off-topic and completely rude. Guess what, I've been pulled over because of my age, and I know this for a fact. (The guy that had the car before me was an older man, he lives in the same town as me and it was his daily driver. For 13 years he had the car without the front license plate and didn't have any problems from any cop. The first week I had bought the car, a cop pulled me over for it. If thats not age discrimination I don't know what is.) I guess you should tell me to look older or something, since your so good at giving advice to people about how not to get pulled over.

And here it comes, the classic, "We'll my car is faster than yours..so I'm a better person. Also you spelled a word wrong...you were in a hurry and didn't care about punctuation...this also makes me a better person." remark. Also, very mature. :toobad:

Honestly, when I got my dump tube and exhaust put on, it kinda scared me when I went on boost. My exhaust was ssooo quiet and my turbo spool from the 14b(hiss) was nothing, then all of a sudden, it was echoing off cars and buildings, i was like :D when i'd see little girls cover their ears and people jump outta their pants. It has to offer some degree of LESS backpressure when its open, i mean it dumps outside the exhaust!! WTF Nothin wrong with having a dump, it'll actually keep u outta trouble, :sneaky: u dont wanna go around boosting all the time.. :D

a o2 dump only makes noise AFTER full boost is reached. the wastegate doesnt open until it reaches the users desired boost setting.

you could drive a car in cali all day long, right next to cops, as long as you dont hit full boost you will be perfectly fine. getting smogged is another thing.

and if a cop hears your O2 dump you have more things to worry about than getting reffed(if youre in cali), if your O2 dump is making noise, it means youre in full boost, and youre prolly going alot faster than the speed limit. youre gonna get speeding ticket, plus theyre going through your hood.

but remember this. o2 dumps sound like complete ass. imagine just straight up chopping the exhaust off a civic at the header, and making it sound like a wet fart at 7Krpm. if you like your exhaust to roar and be deep at full throttle, dont get a dump.

plus most dumps face straight down, if you have a FMIC or plan on getting one, youre gonna have to do some custom modding to either the dump or ic piping.

LOL After watching a few vids of the external dump Im gonna have to pass on that thing. It's CRAZY loud! Sounds like it drowns out ALL other sounds. I like boosting too much to listen to that all day. :coy:

I'm still thinking about getting it....but then again....I'm also thinking about getting 2.25'' o2 housing. They are cheap and have advantages. Unlike a Honda...they are loud all the time. They start their car, it sounds like they are flooring it. If they drive normally...it sounds like they are flooring it. Straight rice. Anyways, a Dump will only be loud with full boost. So you can still hear your sweet turbo spool and sneak around town. When you want hell to break loose, just boost it, and you can hear it tearing a new one. Its all preferance, I'm gonna get one...but not right now. California is strict withs its SMOG and CARB and CRAP....but if man makes the rules....theres always a way a man can go around it.
