Tips on changing rear wheel bearing 2G

Im in the middle of changing the rear wheel bearing on my 2G, but I am having a hard time pulling the hub assembly off the splines.
Does anyone have any tips to make this easier?

Thread the nut back on there to protect the end of the axle shaft and have at it. They rust up real bad.

my new bearing assembly has 4 threaded holes in it, do these bolts need to be removed on the current hub before it will pull from the axle?

No, those are just the mounts for the bearing/hub itself. With the spindle nut off the axle will come out with the BFH method described above.

The axle comes out the back. Hub comes off the front. Those 4 bolts just hold the hub to the knuckle.

my puller doesn't seem to be budging the hub off the splines.
I don't want to damage anything by the BFH method

As long as you keep the nut on the end of the axle you wont hurt anything. Try some PB blaster or Liquid Wrench.

I actually ended up beating the threads off the nut.

My bearing went and I attempted to replace it I tried beating it with a BFH, then a puller, and I even torched it. Nothing ended up just changing the hub and the axle. The front was the same Had to buy the knuckle axle and hub. THey just rust weld together. Good luck but keep in mind most likely going to have to buy an axle

Adding some real heat (ie oxygen/acetylene) can be a big help as well.

When you do get them apart, add some good grease on both sets of splines, it will make removal much easier in the future.

The front was the same Had to buy the knuckle axle and hub.

If you pull the knuckle off, you can take it to a bench grinder and grind the axle's hub down enough to let it pass through the knuckle with the hub still attached. I did that once. Not fun, but it saved the cost of a new knuckle.

One Wednesday, I did a wheel bearing that I replaced 3 years ago. Sticky tires are hard on bearings. I used 1600°F anti-seize on everything and the axle came out without even having to swing a hammer. It's good stuff.

turns out the axle wont come out. i have tried pullers, heat, and bfh.
now the nut will not thread back onto the axle.
anyone know where i can buy a new axle?

I've run ones from Rockauto. Unless you're cranking out globs of horsepower, you should be fine running them.

got the threads cleaned up at the end of the axle, nut went back on fine.
Im gonna have to pay someone with an oxy/acetylene torch to change the bearing
