me and my buddy timed my engine for the first time and were about 95% sure we did it right. after getting everything put back together and the engine back in i tried to start and it would turn over but it sounded almost bogged down would my car still start if the timing were off by just a smidge?

Usually if timing is off it will sound like your car is about to start but doesn't.Do not try starting it anymore until you figure out why its not.Check for spark ,fuel ,and compression first.

you can start with timing off like previously said but you can also have your CAS sensor 180 degrees out. make sure that's not the case.

The car would still start more than likely, but may be a pain in the ass to get going.

That's why I always start them before I put it all back together.

it will start even if its off a couple of teeth, but of course it will run like crap. you should always check b4 throwing the timing belt cover back on to c if all the lines mark up properly. oil pump, crank, and check to c if everything lines up and your r top dead center(cams). u should always do this even b4 taking it all apart as well. to c if your timing is off in anyway, spin the crank by hand 6complete turns using a socket wrench on the crank sprocket. once done check to c if all the marks line up in their proper spot.

true, can b an issue, but i dont think he messed with that to do the timing belt change. the CAS shall never b messed with unless your trying to advance timing or retard timing for a specific setup.

OP, pull it back apart and make sure that the timing is correct. If it is not far off you will probably be fine and you can just retime it. If it's way off then your head is probably jacked.

Honestly if you were only 95% sure when you put it together you should probably have gotten someone else to look at it.

stock wastegate solonoid, it doesnt need hooked up to start does it?

and i did spin and checked marks and it seemed to be right, i even spun another six and checked. im just trouble shooting and starting with the one thing i was not 100% sure about.

Well it's a vacuum leak until it gets hooked up or the boost source for it gets plugged. But if you don't hook it up and you step on the gas prepare yourself for the infinite amount of boost you will build. You should hook it up first.

I don't really see that small of a leak preventing it from starting, although I guess nothing is impossible. However, if you have multiple vacuum lines not attached it would definitely cause issues.

In all honesty though, from what you have described, it sounds a little like your timing is off.
