timing off?

just put together an engine, it is jdm 6bolt bottom end with a 93 talon head. Timing marks are good. It is hard to start, and when it finally starts i have to play with the gas pedal to keep it running. I was wondering if the ignition timing could be off.

Could be. More likely a vacuum leak.

Also I want to mention that the fuel pump was bad, so i ordered a walabro255 to replace it with. I did not put an aftermarket Afpr on, could this be my problem?

Like HIGHPSI14 said, could be a vacuum leak. I kinda had the same problem a few weeks back. All I had to do was change my plugs and wires, when was the last time you did that?

Yes you need an AFPR for the 255. Make sure you have the right plugs and gap (NGK BPR6ES at 0.028"). Do a BLT.

For timing questions, it's best to throw up pictures or there's no way for us to really tell if they marks are lined up.

checked diagnostic codes, and everything appeared normal. I got a constant up and down on my analog meter. New plugs ngk 7 at.032

No check engine light on. changed out coil pack, and wires. Adjusted timing to 5 btdc, and BISS. Still runs sluggish and has a constant up and down idle. Will not rev no higher than 3000 rpm's. Anybody have some answers for me?

I did not install the fuel pump correctly, when I wire tied the pump to the sending unit i accidently pulled the pump and the discharge tube apart. Put back together runs fine.
