alright well recently i turbo'd my 99 eclipse n/t afterwards i drove it about 3-4 miles drive great slight fuel cut... well the car wouldn't the next morning so i figured id tear it down i replaced head gasket, timing belt, tensioner pulleys and, water pump and motor has recently been head reconditioned, pistons+rings, berrings, gaskets ect.. well my problem stands now the car wont start i did a compression test on it and its showing like 63 all the way across could i have the crank timing out?? would timing cause the compression to be that low on every cylinder?? any help would be highly appricated...:hmm:

Remember that the compression test is suppose to be done on a hot motor at WOT. You may get lower numbers on a cold motor. To answer your question, if your timing is off it can effect your compression numbers.

On my rebuilt motor I was only getting 145psi per cylinder, I had the intake cam off my 1 tooth and the compression jumped up to 170psi. Thats on a low compression motor. I would check you timing really good to make sure it dead on.

Holy crap, timing makes a huge difference. I gonna make sure its dead center on.

first of all if your timing is off yes u will have low comprassion
second off, 63 is way to low of a number.
third of all ## motor doesnt have to b hot in order to do a comprassion test, yes it will b lower numbers than a hot number but the whole idea of a comprassion test is that all your numbers close to each other.
check ## timing and hope u r off and didnt slightly bend valves !!!!

Just like stated timing has a great influence on cranking compression, sounds like yours is WAY off.

Thats not the whole point of a compression test, you can also figure out what kind of shape your motor is in. If you know your getting lower numbers than on a hot test then why even do a cold one. Unless you like this guy and dont have a choice. Also use better grammar and spelling.

Dont use b for 'be', this is not AIM

well, i checked the valves when the head was off and they were fine.it just stumps me that the compression is so low on all four cylinders btw thanks for the help guys. i guess im just going to pull the motor back out and set the timing again.

I dont know if you have adjustable cam gear but thats the easiest way to adjust your timing. When mine was off I retarded the exhaust and tested the car, then advanced it 1*. That didn't work so I tried the intake cam and retarded it 1* and it fixed the problem.

timing must be off (provided you didn't mess with pistons or rings). compression checks could be done cold. it will still give you the same info if your engine is holding pressure. i've done it cold to 2 of my DSM's and have always had 154 PSI or hihgher. i'm sure they would have been 160+ if i did it hot but the numbers told me that compression was almost uniform across all cylinders and that my engine was healthy compression wise.
