I am in need of changing the timing belt on my car and replacing the parts that go along with that. From reading the forums along with research from fellow DSMers, I have come across what I think is a complete list but am having trouble finding it all. Some extensive searching on here has not yielded all I need either. I was going to buy everything from Mitsubishiparts.net so I can get OEM and cheaper too. I have checked multiple kits from STM, MAP, etc. and they still don't have everything.

Here's what I found on the above site according to their names listed on the site (prices are given just for information of others):

timing belt: $67.86
front crank seal: $16.27
tensioner adjuster: $81.10
BRACKETTIMING BELT TEN: $55.17
Tensioner pulley: $32.88
Water pump (w/gasket): $153.50

I assume the timing belt tensioner that people have said we need is the "BRACKETTIMING BELT TEN"? And I figured with needing the timing belt tensioner pulley and tensioner that I need an adjuster? (which is why I listed one)

I could not find the following:

idler pulley
oil pump seal
balance shaft belt
balance shaft belt tensioner
balance shaft belt tensioner pulley
cam seals

The MAPerformance Timing Belt Kit also had listed the following part numbers which are not associated with anything above:

MD156604
MD182537
MD308086

When I typed them in at Mitsubishiparts.net it came up with:

"Pulley,timing Bel" $32.93
"Pulley,timing Bel" $28.92
"Adjuster,timing B" $70.93

Anyone know what these are?

VFAQ also has a complete list but is for 1G and I know not all parts are the same for 2G.

Anyone care to assist? And if there is a thread which lists what I need that I missed, please link it, thank you.

Come on, I know people have changed out their timing belt and parts. I hear a slight squeal near my timing area so I want to get all this done ASAP and want to go ahead and replace everything when I do it.

I don't know what the part numbers are, but I just ordered an OEM tensioner pulley and idler pulley off of dsmparts.com.

If i were you i would get a gates kit from rockauto.com along with a oem tensioner, and the gmb water pump from rockauto.com. You can also get the oil pump gasket kit for like 12 dollars from rockauto which includes all the seals for the oil pump, crank and balance shaft.

All great to know.

ZenkaiRacerDsM, I didn't think to check dsmparts.com, thanks.

black91awdturbo, thank you so much for telling me about Extreme PSI! They even have the part numbers! I am pretty familiar with the site but was unaware of their OEM section. I still had to type "OEM" into search then click on a part that said OEM and then back to the category at the top to find it but I did.

bryanwheat, I just checked out rockauto.com. Their site is very different when it comes to navigating it what with the drop down +/- categories. But why Gates? I know they are one company that sells parts like that for our cars but I know near everyone says OEM as far as timing stuff goes. Have you had good luck with them? How is their quality? And also never heard of GMB.

I started hearing a small squeal from the timing belt area. At first I thought it was from the alternator belt I recently replaced but upon closer listening, it sounds like the timing area. I am in the process of figuring out the best deals on everything but does anyone know what could be causing it?

Thanks.

You need..

EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts

Done deal. Just add in a water pump and cam seals. As for the noise. It could be anything one of the other belts. P/S or Alt. Just make sure they are tight. I would check how loose the timing belt is as well. Might help you figure it out. And how long has it been since the last timing belt job?

Yeah someone posted about Extreme PSI, very helpful. As far as the belt itself goes, I did take off the cover to check it when I changed the alt belt. It was looser than my friend's talon. Like if I pushed on it between the cam gears the deflection was greater on mine than his. I checked and my timing is still aligned perfectly with TDC. And the last it was done? Before I got my car, unknown when. I just haven't had the money. I have been checking the belt periodically for wear and it is still in great condition with no noticeable frays, microcracks, etc. But now I am going to try and get the money together to get it done so I know when it was done.
