So im finally starting to put my 2g back together. I have the head off and before installing it im going to be doing a T-Belt job and putting in a new water pump. I figured it would be easier to do without the head on because of the extra room but now that I have been reading up on the vfaq it looks like it may be easier to put the head on first so i can align all the timing marks up all at once? Am I wrong? Can I just line up the timing marks for the crankshaft and oil pump sprockets and then just slide the belt over the cam gears when i put the head on?

I'd really like to see somebody do a timing belt with the head off. I suspect it would be a very short exibition.

HAHA. That should have been the first post for this thread. The only thing you could really do with the head off is put the cams at top dead. Which is just as easy to do with the head already in the car. So yeah like everyone else said, put the head on first. Good luck hope it goes well. :talon:
