Edm,
I just checked my plugs, and they are pretty white. I don't think I'm running lean.
The pugs are 3-4 months old, and were installed with my freshly rebuilt engine. The coolant temps are normal.

Should I switch to a colder plug, BPR7ES?, I'm using the 6es's right now.

Do you see any blistering on the plug?
They should be a white to a tan color. You might be lean.
Hard to tell without a pic or the plug on hand. Also use a pen and mark were each plug comes out of. Each time you pull them. This helps in tracing problems down the road.

I am having the same problem you are having right now. I had 1 ranger colder plugs on my 92 talon the BPR7ES kind, the tips where dark I thought I was running to rich because of the plugs. So I went down to the 6ES to try and fix an richness / idle problem also I read if you were'nt running over 16 PSI you didnt need to go to a colder plug so I went to the 6ES. I pulled my plugs 4 times over a period of 2 months and the 6ES where white at the tips I then thought I was running lean even though I did no mods to the car just changed the plugs. So I pulled out my logger and ran a couple of idle logs as well as a quick log of a drive around the block and the log came out to be normal at idle and a hair rich on the run around the block. I am still trying to figure out what is causing the white tips. I am leaning toword a HG but my compression is 150 strait across I might just put my 7ES back in for the hell of it to see what happens. I hope some one can chime and straiten it out I am puzzled.

No tan colour at all. They aren't blistered, and don't have carbon build up.

The 6's run pretty hot in some cars, burning off all the deposits. Mine were always white so I went to 7's and they look more "normal". With the EFI system running in closed loop most of the time, reading plugs for rich/lean conditions is pointless unless it's right after a run and you shut the engine down at the end of the pull.
