I have a '93 eagle talon TSI FWD 5 spd turbo, I just put a 5 speed tranny in that was suppose to be a good one and after replacing valves, water pump, timing belt, alternator, belts, cv axles, brakes, and tires the trans is grinding 5th! I believe I will buy a good trans this time but wanted to see what would be best, car is a daily driver (when running) every now and then it may see hard running and currently stock motor/turbo but looking to upgrade some in the future. Whats best option with out going too high, where can I get it?

Well, If the tranny is supposed to be a good one and just grinds in fifth, check all the bushings in the shifter and recheck all the lines and cables. Maybe its an easy fix. Also yes could be the syncros, and I do believe that isnt that much.Im looking into it right now. For a dd, You really dont need much more of a transmission unless your running serious hp. If you got a decent job, set aside 50 from every check 5 months from now you can get a sheps tranny.

Will a shep trans be overkill for a dd or should I just get a rebuild kit and completely rebuild the one I have? What other manufacturers are around that are good?
