ticking?

my engine is making a ticking noise after its been running for more than probably 15 mins u can hear it at idle then as you rev slowly u can hear the ticking go faster but then the noise stops, or drowns out!, the car also smokes at idle and when its been sittin at idle for a few minutes and take off it blows a good puff out but stops, also it when im racing or gettin on it pretty good my friends say when i shift it blows out a small cloud and its grey not blue..... any ideas.... New head?

Im kind of a begginer with engine internals and stuff, im the electronics type, i heard a 1g head is a good mod, because it has bigger ports and it flows better.... if im wrong correct me but if its true and itll bolt right up ill just do that......

1G head does flow better but you could also just get a 2G head ported out. The 1G exhaust manifolds have a tendancy to crack and the 2g manis flow better even when not ported so that is a common upgrade for 1G owners. I cant remember which is better but there are differences in the IC piping between the 1G and 2Gs.

A completely new head? No I dont think so. However if you do need new valves seals and guides and the head will have to be removed anyway its an excellent Idea to just have it rebuilt while its off.

Get more opinions that is just mine and Im no expert here.

I tried the product called Restore mixed with Mobil1 Synthetic. It made the lifter tick go away and provided a more consistent idle.
