Ok guys well like a month ago i started to get this ticking sound. The ticking sound does not come from the lifters neither spun a rod bearing. Ok when i turn on my car its a little loud then its just calms down. Its weird because when the engine is cold it does that. For the first mile i can still hear it but after that no sound. When i turn on the car at first and drive it the tick becomes louder when there is load on the engine and not when the rpm gets higher. Can anyone know why that is or what it is? I know its not my ps belt or pump because I removed the belt on that. Sound close to the timing belt and the belts around it. Can it be the alternator belt, any Tensioners, or pulleys that can make that sound?

I got a ticking sound that is caused by a leak in the exhaust manifold gasket because one of the stud broke when I installed my 16g. It just started ticking recently. It will only tick when the engine is cold and goes alway after it gets warm.

ticking when its cold, and then when it warms up? sounds like a lifter is not getting oil to it, and when it does the tick goes away. If it gets faster with UP in revs then i would look there first.

No i know its not the lifters because I can hear the lifter make their sound almost silent., But for sure I know its not my lifters. It could be the ex. Manifold because the sound does come from close from there and the timing belt and also all of the other pulleys

My car ticks when it's cold too. Probably lifters, but possibly crankwalk. My car was diagnosed with crankmovement, so now I'm not too sure what's causing all my little noises. I've just learned to live with all the little quirks that the DSM makes on a daily basis.

I honestly would have thought lifters as well. I had the same problem. All I did was use a Mitsubishi brand oil filter and haven't heard the tick since. But if you are SURE is is NOT your lifters, then I don't know. Could be any number of things. Worse case scenario: rod knock (although that's pretty distinct).

thanks guys for helping me out. I knew it couldn't be the lifters cuz i could hear them mean while i hear that ticking sound. I couldn't spun a rod bearing because i recently rebuilt my motor and put a new oil pump on it. What i found out was that the ticking sound was coming from the manifold, it had 2 nuts loose also i saw a turbo bolt loose. I tightened them and now im all noise free. thanks noz for your reply sorry to hear that you will have deal with that for a while that sucks
