ticking sound

ok my car has been making a kinda weird ticking sound, its not all the time. it only seems to occur under boost, so of course turbo comes to mind, it almost sounds as if you were to like, stick a ziptie in a fan. kind of a "tickatickaticka" sound. the other thing that is weird is that it only seems to do it when the car is cold? once it warms up it seems fine, i understand this is rather vague and i understand you cant solve my problem by just reading this description. im just looking to be pointed in the right direction. any ideas where to start?

Eh, I'll bet money its an exhaust leak not lifter tick. The only when cold gives away, my 95 did the same thing. It would tick like crazy when cold, then when it warmed up it would seal. Check the exhaust main to head gasket, the mani to turbo gasket, turbo to o2, o2 to down pipe gaskets.

Exhaust leak. Once the exhaust components warm up they expand and seal the leak. Thats why you only hear it when its cold.

REALLY!!! I have this same thing but it only does it if I nail it in the first 30 seconds or so which I never usually do. I always thought it had something to do w/ low oil presuure and the turbo getting starved cause thats exactly what it kinda sounded like. It only happens when sitting first thing in the morning and I have to mash down the gas if I really wanted to hear it. It sounded like the normal boosting whoosh along with the "ziptie" fan. I guess I should check that out, my car has always done that..... Any other possibilites somebody. let me know

ok thanks guys, i'm very inclined to go with the exhaust leak theory. the car i have was previously modded with a turbo-back exhaust. then returned to stock before i purchased it. and it still sounds kinda loud (louder than my laser) so i've always been suspicious that it was kinda "hap-hazardly" bolted back up. i appreciate the response guys.
