Well after 6 years my 1995 Eagle Talon TSI is running again. Rebuilt motor and new sensors and lines on engine.

Put engine in and after sitting for 6 years it started almost on 1st crank. Fuel pump needed to push the new fuel to the rebuilt injectors.

I heard a terrible clicking and thought those new better lifters cannot be making that sound.

Ends up that the Evaporation (EVAP) solenoid on the firewall is the cause of the ticking.....i can actually feel it ticking.

As I bought the car new in 1995 i know this is not normal. All vacuum lines are new and replaced one at a time while paying attention to the color codes on the OEM lines.

DSM Link was sent my ECU for check up and installation of a gadget that allows a Link chip to be installed. But I had them install the OEM chip until I get $$ for DSM link. So ECU should not be bad.

Any suggestion as to what is causing the LOUD ANNOYING TICKING?

Thanks

The purge solenoid will always tick but if its loud enough to where you can feel it then its probably bad, do you have any cel/mil on?

Bet your ECU is tired where this will not throw a CEL

The drivers on the ECU momboard that controls this sensor aren't getting the current regulation from the tired caps which this clicking could be the results. Eventually, one cap will short out and blow the other one and you'll have a dead ECU all together.

It's like not getting the minimual 5vdc to keep the selenoid closed at all times and the electromagnet that pulls the lever in the selenoid is loosing current.

With this less current syndrome, the ECU senses the opening circuit to send current into the electromagnet to return the system back into a closed loop condition..then the cycle repeats itself continually due to the weakened current.

...and you got your clicking as the results.

Best get the ECU tested to make sure.

As posted earlier the guys as DSM Link did give the ECU a clean bill of health when they installed the socket.

Couple more symptoms showed up today. Not sure they are related. but here it goes. I might make another post on this issue.

1) Car starts and idles like a dream....as good as the day is rolled off the factory floor.
2) Until I rev it above 3500 or so RPM...then it feels like its missing and has no power. I can keep it running by playing with the air pedal(gas pedal).
3) After about 1 or 2 minutes it settles down again and idles perfectly.
4) during the 1 or 2 minutes its running bad the evac sensor will click loud
5) during the 1 or 2 minutes it will not rev up very good at all....maybe 3000 rpm
6) after the 1 or 2 minutes the clicking stops and idle is perfect again, I will be able to rev to 5000 rpm easy but with in a couple seconds it will start to miss and try to die again.

I am thinking IAC?

your thoughts?

Ticking is fixed.

It ended up being my throttle linkage adjustment. I bumped the throttle linkage while installing motor. Adjusted at the fire wall and ticking and engine issues disappeared.

That clicking is the purge valve doing it's job, using engine vacuum to remove vapors from fuel tank. Then when the computer wants to do a evap leak self check it open the purge valve and shut the charcoal canister vent valve then looks at the fuel tank pressure sensor to make sure it can "make" the vacuum and be able to sustain the vac for a predeciced amount of time.
