All,

I did some searching but I couldn't find what I need.

CAR: 1997 GSX.

My cannister has been removed. My ECM is throwing a 0446 code and I want to install the Evap Emission Ventilation Solenoid so it won't throw the light. I have looked over the service manual but all the pics are for the 2.4 l cannister, I think. I can't find an open connector so I am stumped.

I am not talking about the Evap emmision purge soleniod as I know where that one is located.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Last code to fix!!

You will most likely have to pull the battery and tray to get to it if its under the battery. Does your car have abs? If so it is under the battery. If not its most likely under the left quarter panel just be hind the bumper.

I have searched through the wiring diagrams in the Service Manual and I can see the Ventilation solenoid on the 2.4L and the 2.0L NA but I can't find the wiring diagram for the ventilation solenoid diagram for the turbo. I have a md346675 ECU which all sites say its a turbo ECM but who knows. I have looked over the service manual and it says that the Ventilation solenoid is on pin 55 but on the pinouts on this site for the 2g ECM it shows pin 55 blank.

I have another ECM that I know for sure is from a 1995 GSX so I am going to give that a go. Not sure how that will work as I think there are CAM sensor differences but not sure. I am still new to the DSM world. I want to get my ECM repaired but it will be a week or so to get it sent out and back.

Thanks for any help all have given.

Yep, its ABS. Heading out to the car now for a battle of wits. Hope I win! So far we are pretty much even.

UPDATE:

Well, as most of you knew, the 95 ECU didn't work.

I found the cannister and it is still there with all the hoses. It is under the battery. I couldn't see any wires or solenoids of any sort. Good news is, I found the broken wire to my right front turn signal and fixed that. Bad news is, I am in no better (or worse) shape then when I started WRT code 0446.

Going to send the 97 GSX ECU off to get repaired and then will start over with the troubleshooting then.

If anyone can point out the page in the electrical service manual that has the emission evap ventilation solenoid schematic (turbo) I would greatly appreciate it. Admittedly, I am not the sharpest tool in the shed so I could have missed it.

Thanks.

Looking at the different years 2g turbo circuit diagrams from Mitchells, they only show the ventilation solenoid on the 98 & 99 (and its connected to pin 55). Perhaps they only added it to the turbo models in those years (the NT has it on 96-99). So yours being a 97 turbo wouldn't have it.

BTW your md346675 ECU is listed as originally put in FWD cars from 7/97-5/98. MD346676 is listed as in AWD from 7/97-5/98. I think either will work with either though - that's just what it originally is listed from the factory (according to this: Eclipse Talon Laser Galant 3000GT Stealth ECU ID Reference).

luv2rallye, I owe you a beer or a beverage of your choice!!

I was beginning to think I was going nuts!!! Yep, mine is a 97 (Nov 96 production) and I knew the ECU I was using was from a 98 but for the life of me the manual I have doesn't distinguish between the different models.

It is running outstanding. Idling at a cool 850 RPM and temps and oil pressure good. Not a single hiccup. It was great to drive it to work today. My first "daily driver" miles on it since I bought it in Dec 2006!!

I sent my ECU off to Steve ("Steve" on this board) at Allied today. That should take of the ECU.

I was finally able to find the ABS parts and someone to return a PM/email so hopefully that will rectify the ABS issues.

Thanks again for your wisdom.

Ya I haven't seen any manual list changes between years. I only looked at other years because you were having such difficulty finding it. This was something I didn't know either. I only have the 99 factory manual and the DSM Backup manual (which only has certain years). But for year change questions I went to the library and printed off every year of Mitchells engine wiring just for times like these.
