I've noticed that the Tial 40mm wastegates are about twice the price of the Tial 38mm wastegates. For a o2mounted set up, would a Tial 38mm wastegate support a 50trim turbo to its maximum potential? Do you think the 40mm would be worth the extra $200+ while on somewhat of a budget, howcome? Thanks.

I have a 02 mounted Tial 40mm. It came out to be around $575 for the whole deal. I was thinking of reflanging the 02 housing to fit a Tial 38mm but figured I didn't want to ruin VP's flawless peice of work. The 38 should handle the 50 trim perfectly. Also, the Bullseye Power turbine housing that comes on AGP's bolt-on hybrids flows quite well so boost creep would probably be nonexistant on any WG setup. I would go for the 38 if price was the determining factor. Ask around for people with the setup you are wanting to get and see what they have to say.

i got a Frank 3 with a tial 38mm and it works great. got mine at fast-turbo.com for 205.

IMHO I would go with a 40mm....from online shops I have seen it was only like $75-100 more not 200.

one place a HUGE wastegate will help and be required is if you are trying to run a HUGE compressor on a small exhaust housing.. this will allow you faster spool up but it will not overflow the exhaust because the wastegate is so large.

You typically need a bigger wastegate to run lower boost. If you're talking about maxing out a 50 trim, a 38mm wastegate should be fine. That's what I have now on my 14b, (don't laugh, it's called planning) and I'm going to bump up to a 50 trim here soon.

The car isn't a daily driver, so boost creep on pumpgas isn't too much of an issue. Would the 38mm gate have noticeably slower spool up when racing with a .50trim on race or pumpgas pushing more than 20psi, or would it be smarter to get the 40mm gate. I'm not concerned with the boost creep as much as the sppol up as mentioned above. Thanks,
BTW: i curently have a large 3" intake pipe going to my undersized 16g inlet "planning"

Wastegate sizing wouldn't affect spool up UNLESS the wastegate opens prematurely and in that case the larger wastegate would bleed off more exhuast energy than the smaller one. If the cost of the wastegate is not a factor then go with the larger one for better boost control. The Tial 40s are discontinued and cost a lot more than the newer 38mm on average. Also, think about the size difference between 38mm and 40mm. It used to be the 35mm and 40mm but they're replaced by the 38mm and 44mm.
