As the title states. When I was doing a 3rd gear pull today, I noticed that at about 6k, when I pushed in the clutch and it was in neutral, it would still rev fast as if it was still open. The rev's would jump to about 7-7500 and then fall back down as if it was shut. Never did this before and it does it only at wot. Normal driving it does not happen.
Any ideas?

I also went under the hood to check the tension when opening the tb by hand and the tension feels good. Didn't pull on the cable but just turning the tb, thing, LOL, it felt strong.

Bet that made the sphincter pucker up. Fortunatly there is not much to it. Either the cable is binding up on something, or it is really time for some new seals. You could also check the TB plate to see if it shifted on you...but I would think you would have to lose a screw for that to happen.

If it were seals, would I hear that with a boost leak test?
Im gonna check out the cable and clean that up, and go from there.

You might not hear it, but you would find it with a spray bottle of soapy water when doing a normal leak test. Also if you just did the TB seals and didn't lubricate them well enough they could stick, and maybe with age they just dried out enough to cause sticking.

I forgot this earlier...shortly after I bought mine (Nov 97) I got a recall letter to bring the car in to get some pad cut/removed (can't remember, been a while) because it could potentially put a bind on the throttle cable and cause it to stick. Might want to check that.

Although I don't see the same recall for the 97. But you can check with the dealer anyway.
