Im having an issue where after I drive it a while the car starts idling higher and higher. When I stop and get under the hood I can reach back and manually close the throttle by hand. I have also noticed a "grindy" gas pedal. I figured something is sticking so I lube up the cable from the pedal to the throttle box on the pass side, the box itself, and the cable going from the box to the t body. I did get better but its still doing it. Anyone else have an idea?

Ive read through some of the other threads about removing the cruise and I would like to keep the cruise if at all possible. It wasnt doing this before my engine rebuild. But the car did sit outside in the weather (with the hood on) while I was rebuilding. Maybe rust got in there?

Cruise is useless clutter IMO. In both DSM's, I just ripped all of it out and went with a non-cruise cable. There is only ONE cable to worry about, rather than 3 cables as with cruise. Throttle response has never been better than with the non-cruise cable.

If you absolutely HAVE to retain the cruise, lube all the cable assemblies with WD40. Take the cruise control box cover off and spray WD40 on the pulleys as well.

Also, it could be that the throttle plate itself is sticking and NOT the cables. If that is the case, take the throttlebody elbow off and spray carb cleaner on the butterfly and also on the exterior where the springs are. There is probably carbon buildup making it stick.

The tb was cleaned when the engine was out. But just sounds like I just need to lube it up some more.

Man to be honest, the cruise control gave me so many problems in both of my DSMs. Like in my current one, the pedal would be hard to push down and when it finally became unstuck, the car revv'd high because it was pushed too much. As soon as I switched over to a new non-cruise cable, it was a night and day difference. Throttle response has never been better and it's smooth as ever.

Ditch the cruise already and you'll be a happy man.

when it revs high, have you tried pulling the pedel back up, as in putting your foot under the pedel and pull back...mine would begin to do that when it gets hot under the engine bay, especially when its hot outside...i just adjusted the tension on the cable via the bracket thats on the intake manifold, when the engine was still hot, because that was the only time the throttle sticked, i could also close the throttle by hand, now it's nearly 100 and the throttle idle back to normal(at least not as it used too)...so yea just clean, lube, and adjust it first...
