Is it a neccessity to replace the throttle body shaft seals? is it a part of maintenance if your unsure if it has ever been done? Should I do it right way even if there is no problem? also how many of you have done so just for piece of mind? thanks guys!

its a pain to do. the springs are a pain to get back on, and getting the throttle plate screws out is a pain. another thing that was a pain was getting the plate out and back in. the seals themselves are easy. i wouldn't do it unless they are leaking. same as a head gasket if you're not planning for more power.

Ok thanks I was reading the how to article on it and it seemed a little difficult. How do yo know if they are leaking? fast idle?

i would do my shaft seals ten times before i did a headgasket. you get the point.

its not all that bad but if they arent leaking then dont bother because you arent gonna gain anything.

i just meant that as a "if it's not broke, don't fix it" type of thing. stuff like front and rear mains and other seals like that are preventative maintenance. shaft seals are easy enough that when the time comes that they go, your car will only have an hour of downtime if that.

It's not bad if you have the proper tools. If not, then it can be a pain.

That being said, I would replace them if you find they're leaking. If not, I don't see a reason to.

Or get in touch with me and I'll be glad to at some point (along with a full clean and rebuild LOL.

your right make sure you have an impact screw driver and i always replace the screws with new ones. i get them at home depot. along with some loctite and your good to go.
