does anyone know how the manual rack for 1gs perform, is it hard to turn the wheel when cruising, any feedback from the road? any thoughts or opinions on people who have them would be greatly appreciated

When the car is moving it's not hard at all to steer. The feel of how the car is reacting is a lot better. However, during low speed maneuvering it's a pain. You need two hands to steer and the ratio sucks also.

I had a 1.8 that I autocrossed for a few years with manual steering. There were some parts of the course where most people would just flick the wheel to get around a cone, but it took me a couple turns of the wheel to go around the same objects.

I like mine and my car is a pretty well modded daily driver. After about a week of driving you wont even hardly notice it, even when driven slow.

When I first got the thing installed, I hated it but after a week I wondered how I ever used a P/S rack. Feels so much better on sharp curves at high speeds. Much more solid feel to a manual rack.

Any input on how the engine behaves? Does it rev a bit easier, anything? I remember that when I pulled the P/S off my Prelude (first car long time ago) it felt my more responsive.

Hrmmm I cant comment because I put in a new motor too when I did the rack.

I would think it might be slightly more noticable though. Less weight, one less belt putting drag on the engine.

Not sure though.

My car is currently having a manual rack put on. My power steering was shot and the manual was cheaper/easier/less leaks/etc. Anyway, I was wondering if there is anything that could be done to quicken the ratio of the steering to counter the problems that RamenPride brought up. I was reading the other day in a magazine about drifters altering their steering to get better steering angles ( or something like that  ). Anybody have some ideas?

Could have just picked up a PS pump that doesn't drop out or burst. :b Mine came with a manual rack, and I really wasn't sure if the prior owner had just pulled the pump. Then I got to drive one with a PS rack with a dead pump.

Personally, I'm still tempted to put a power rack back on mine, and get one of the aftermarket PS pumps dropped in.

Yeah, you get a lot more response from the road with a manual rack. But it... well, honestly it's not worth the decrease in ease of handling. The GS-T could take a normal right-hand intersection turn at 45 with no problems, and a flick of the hand (before the pump died). The GSX you have to CRANK around, and slide a lane left. :b And forget AXing without some HUGE damn arms.
