Thinking about downsizing from Tdo6 Godzilla to evoIII 16g

I recently thought about replacing my current turbo for a couple reasons.1. the tdo6 godzilla spools way to slow for me. 2. It has high mileage and small amount of shaft play 3. It's proven. I've been reading some reviews about it ..seen to me that alot people have been known to trap 110plus mph. Fast spooling with a nice topend . My car is just not responsive enough with the Godzilla for a daily driver but it has tons of topend. I was thinking maybe a heavily ported EvoIII 16g w/75 shot. My current mods consist of walbro 255,FIC 650cc injectors,BM Fp modifier, ported 2g mani, apexi safc, ported 02 housing w/ 38mm external wastegate, 2g mas, Turbochargers.com FMIC 24x13x3 top to bottom flow, extreme mbc, act 2600, 4bolt, 2.5" buschur downpipe to 3" thermal w/testpipe, arp headstuds, tdo6 godzilla, plus more.. i usually run the Godzilla @ 17 psi on 93 octane daily. It's just to slow spooling for me. if i were to get an evoIII 16g i could run 20 psi on 93 and I would probably benefit from it because of my car being a daily driver and it will be even better when i get the nitrous. Tell me what you think

if you are going to downsize let me know how much you would want for the godzilla i am interested in it.

Maybe a 48 trim t3/t or ball bearing t3/t4 would treat you well?

the godzilla has a garret 46 trim compressor wheel stuffed into a modified tdo5 housing. It does have a lots of power. it's just too slow spooling for me. Id rather get a tdo5 or tdo6 20g . But, my budget is really tight right now

You said you would run a 75shot with the 16G. Why not run it on the Godzilla? You also stated you run 17psi on the Godzilla, and would run 20psi on the 16G?? Why not up your boost now to 20psi. Power can REALLY make up for some extra lag.

I was actually just thinking about running the 75 shot on the Godzilla. But it has high mileage and the shaft play is respectable. With the nitrous i don't know how much longer will last. I'm pretty sure nitrous takes it tole on turbos with alot of miles.I was running 20psi before but the temperatures have been in the 80-90 degree range and It seems to pull harder when the boost is lower on 90 degree days. I bet spraying on the Godzilla would totally change it's spool characteristics.

You are not even scratching the surface of the larger turbo. The people trapping 110+ with the evo have cams (some with SMIM) and running 24-26 psi. Cams will usually add about 3-4 mph fwiw. All used turbos will have some shaft play. As long as it not burning oil or contacting the housing it is probably fine. Try to get some cams but in the mean time up the boost a little bit. You will be happier :)

I would love to install a smim and some hks 272 cams. But my budget is very limited. It would allow me to either get the cams or smim. There's no point of upgrading to smim with stock cams. Cams or nitrous is what it boils down too. HKS cams are the hardest thing to get ahold of.So i guess I'll be spraying

with your setup a evo 3 and 264 272 cams would make your car faster then it is now at 20psi then the godzilla is at 17psi and it would be alot more streetable. Youll have a little less top end(still pretty damn good) ALOT less lag, and great power. Big 16gs have made 11s and the newer evo3s are just as capable if not more. Oh and I reach 15psi by 2800 or less with my current setup.

what is smim i prob sound like a moron but don't really use abbreviations...also on the evo3 topic ive talked to junior a guy who does all the dynoing at turbotrix for SAFCS another guy i think mark does standalone...but he said a awd with a fmic and 20 lbs of boost, cams, and other basic mods put down 340whp...that was awd so u fwds out there (like me) can expect higher numbers due to 15 to 20 % drivetrain lose. Another car with a sidemount i believe he said put down 330whp so these turbos to me are excellent there everything that big16 has plus more lighter internals, and a 2.5 outlet and the inducer is a little bigger (big16g 1.893) and (evo3 1.903) and the turbine housing weight is a huge difference (big16g 9.4lbs) and (evo3 6.8lbs) so lighter internals equals a faster sppoling turbo and jus a all around better turbo so that would make the evo3 turbo a great choice.... jus port ur wastegate to $hit lot of creep problems. ive done my fair reading with these turbos theres crazy stories ive read bout what these turbos have kept up with :dsm:

I don't think I agree with any of that.

-You make it sound like trapping 110 with a B16G is some ridiculous feat
-Commenting on a certain turbo's shaft play without seeing it is NOT good advice
-He already is complaining of poor lag, and you tell him to boost more ???

Erase my thoughts of having a evoIII big 16g and spray. I'm gonna take the godzilla off and throw it. I'm defiantely gonna go with either pte or agp 50 trim or 60-1.

I have a 2G awd customer with a evo 3 16g, evo manifold and o2, 3" exhaust, 2.25" ic pipes, *STOCK SMIC*, 660s, and an AFC. On pump gas at 19psi he did 107mph. He averages 105.

I have another customer with a 1G awd that has a FMIC, 2G mas, 550s, afc, and 3" exhaust. He did 114 on racegas with 24psi of boost.

No cams, nothing special.
