Ok when i pulled my thermostat housing apart i noticed a piece of metal in it that was a mystery to me. I'm not sure if its supposed to be there and if it is, what purpose does it have?

The pictures are the bottom two on the right side of my page.

The first picture is taken from above the housing. You can see that both the left and right side have little trays. The peice is sitting in the right tray verticly. The second picture is of the piece of metal.

Anybody familiar with this? Thanks in advance.

I bought a wrecked tsi awd. I drove it to the end of my yard and back to make sure the tranny was fine, so honestly i dont know.

Would somebody be so kind as to pop 2 bolts off and see if theirs contains anything like this?

If its supposed to be there i'll leave it, if not i'll pitch it. I just need to know :thumb:

Bump.

As said before i just need to know if this belongs here or not. I'm guessing it doesn't, but fits the circumference of the hole so well, it seems as though it belongs.

 WTF this isnt that difficult. ANYBODY THAT READS THIS AND HAS EVER HAD THEIR THERMOSTAT OUT. WAS THIS PIECE OF METAL THERE?

Is it just me, or has overabundance of stupid people ruined this site?

*Sorry for the rant, i guess i'm just annoyed*

The grey piece doesn't look like it belongs in there. Thermostat has a bronze body. MD997608 is the part number for the thermostat kit which comes w/ the sensor. If you haven't changed the gauge sensors, and you have a lot of mileage on the sensor, its a nice time to change them out together. The gauge cluster temp sensor ( MD091056), water temp sensor (MD069879), and thermosensor by the radiator (MB356704) for the fan. Hope that helps.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but i'm sure all of you can agree it can be difficult to get an answer around here, not to mention a CORRECT one. I'm not necessarily looking for respect, but i'll be the first to give mine where it is due. :thumb:

So back on topic,....

It seems that the general consensus is that it doesnt belong? I guess i'll be pitching it.

I'm just a touch impatient because i'm trying to get my car done so i can actually drive it this season. I've been swapping a 94 turbo motor/tranny into a 90 n/a. I've been working on it for about 2 years now because of being away at school, and working full time during the summer. I'm getting ready to drop the engine back in, and hopefully get this mutt running. Thanks for the help.
