I had a wierd problem last night I was driving along and suddenly my temps started to climb pretty quick.. not all the way to "H" but far enough above normal to warrant pulling over.. I popped the hood and saw no leaks plenty of water in the overflow and a nice tight radiator hose..

then.. i looked back at the temp (car still running) and it was normal.. actually a little cooler than normal..

so a started to limp it home and had no probs at all with temp.. so i goosed it a few times and still no probs...

then it started to climb again but within a few sec rapidly dropped to normal again...

after letting to cool of when i got home i opened the cap, everything was full, all that good stuff..

now to me this seems like and open and shut case of a sticking thermostat.. but i wanna make sure, its a "Failsafe" 180 thermostat and supposidly it will fail OPEN not shut.. but that didnt seem to be the case..

I have a FMIC but also a fluidyne.. and its winter so overheating in general should not be a problem.. but FYI im running a 70/30 water/coolant mix, OEM radiator cap i have a 1g head aswell so its a 1g stat.. not that that should matter..

But im gonna yank that thermostat and get a new one..

SO!!

who makes the BEST 180 degree thermostat? I would use OEM from satan but they are a 195 and $27.. yikes.

thanks for any help/

i was told that you could not run a colder stat. because the computer could not figure it out. and that they where trying to find a way to program the computer for a 160 or 180 stat.

that is what i heard it might not be true.

but if it is that could be what you are seeing on the gauge, (computer trying to figure out what is going on)

hmm, i need to brake down and get a REAL temp gauge.. i have a slot next to teh AFC for one but have been procrastinating..

BTW, those who have a aftermarket gauge, where did you tap the sensor? i was gonna put it on the stat housing on the engine side of the stat.. kinda how the stocker is..
