This is my first dsm. I have a 95 gsx and the temperature slowly moves to warm when driving for 30 mins. THe needle in the temperature gauge is a little under warm after the 30 min driving. Is this right or do i need a thermostat? I am going to maintance tune up soon too. Which degree level of thermostat should i get?

Well when mine is fully warmed up, the needle is a little under the halfway mark on the temperature gauge. Mine doesn't take 30 minutes to warm up though...some signs of broken thermostats are overheating when idling or in slow traffic and taking a log time to warm up. If you are in doubt, a thermostat costs like $2 and is fairly easy to replace. I run a 190* thermostat in my car if that helps any.

thanks...for the info. I am going to change the thermostat just so that i know it is good.

what is the stock thermostat set at on these cars? this is without a doubt the hottest operating vehicle i have ever driven...im starting to wonder if my thermostat is screwed or not...i drove about 2200 miles this past weekend without any overheating problems, but damn..when i raised the hood to check the fluids ever 250 miles the heat off this damn engine would singe your eyebrows

Turbo 180°, non-turbo 195°

Nope, you're fine.

Keep in mind that at a good cruise, the manifold and turbo exhaust side are literally red-hot. Heat shields are good things.
