Brake rotors rust very fast. It is probably just surface rust and will go away on the ride home. I have three cars and no garage so I get orange rotors often. Nothing to worry about, but boy do I want a garage.

Springs are pretty cheap. Not any reason to buy the car. Talk him down and have him help you swap the springs. If he really wants to sell it, he will do both. Talk him down to $6,000 and go for it. Cheap 2g AWD's are getting harder to come by. And believe me, they're worth it.

Sounds way high for the condition of the car. The rust holes certianly dont sound good. I only paid $3500 for my 95 tsi awd and the body was in pretty good shape with 100k miles on the engine. Just because it has a evo 3 turbo on it doesnt mean that much, you could do it yourself easily for under $1k. I would shop around more myself and stay away from this car unless you can talk him down a good amount and can do the repairs yourself

It sounds like an awful lot for what you are getting. How many miles are on the body?

I agree, shop around a little more, you'll come across a good deal at some point:sneaky:

First off I don't see much rust except little here and there. You also forgot to mention all the other work done on the car. But, like you said the suspension work and other work could get a little expensive. It is a nice car though.

'Lowered 1 1/2 inches- -Custom' - that should have been a flag raiser :)

haha ya kind of looks fishy to me too.

The guy said there is a stereo in the car, hence the fray of wires, and being a Michigan car, I guess you have to assume there will be rust on the car. I just wasn't sure how much.

The listed price on the car is $9000 but the sales guy he can sell it for $8200 . . . I think this is a reasonable price for a stock car with 77,000 miles.

My car is a northern Indiana car, and doesn't have ANY rust. (well, save for a few old exhaust bolts)

If you can tell me where in Texas i might be able to check it out for you but that would only be possible if its close by

holy mega thread !

^^ ya being a 99' i guess the car is still pretty new that rust wont yet be that much of an issue. did you have any "rust proofing" done when you bought your car ?

the car is located at elite motorsport:

ecarrillo please dont go out of your way to look at it, but like you said if you live 5 minutes away, maybe you would walk over.

sorry cant help you on that one its hours away from my location but hopefully it works out though

Hey, I'm new to the forums so please go easy on me, LOL. I currently own a 96 Eclipse N/T with all the basic bolt ons.

Anyway, I have the oppurtunity to buy a 95 Talon TSI for $850. Engine has 111k miles. It starts and runs. However, It has a coolant leak, needs a new alternator connection and an air tube from the intercooler to the throttle body. It's also missing the front bumper. How much work ($$) should I be expecting to do to the car to get it running decent and is it worth $850?

Hell if you dont buy it someone else is definately going to. I picked up 90 AWD in about the same condition for $650.

Hell I would say jump on it....Keystone(an aftermarket manufacturer of body panels)makes the bumper for it for like a little over $100....the pipe......just upgrade it to a dave brode upper IC pipe and use a 1G blowoff valve.

Unless it needs something major like a new engine or transmission you'd be crazy not to buy it.

The bumper's probably going to cost $150-250 off of ebay for a eclipse 2gb cover, of course you'll want to have it painted as well (probably the rest of the car too). For the intercooler piping, I would sugjest ebay as well. You could probably fab your own, but for about $150-200 you could pick up some hard piping and the needed 1g blow off valve. You'll want to get that stuff in the future anyway. Alternator conection can't be that much, the only thing that I'd be worried about is the coolant leak. If its just a rusted or cracked line, than it should be an easy fix.

So total you'll probably be out $1400-2200 depending on the paint job and how much the alternator connection and coolant leak are to fix.

If it was in good shape, I would spend $850 even if it didn't have an engine or tranny.

So I have a chance to buy a 95 GST that was stolen and recovered, then fixed, for 2100 from a friend. It needs paint, has balance shaft knock(known for sure...), just over 100k on the clock, needs tires soon. The interior is in pretty damn good shape, its missing some clips on the stock body kit, has a non recirculated bov and an exhaust. It also has a new timing belt.... I quickly checked for C/W and it didn't show signs but i'm going to go back and double check again this weekend. The car stalls when I come to a stop after its warmed up a bit but I've yet to check for boost leaks, vacuum leaks and all the other normal maintenance.

My friend went and took a look at it and since he's a car salesman with Zero mechanical inclination he told me not to do it because he's weary since we see a lot of the crap cars roll in.... He's very good at his job and he's putting doubt into my head. I work with him selling cars so i'm a little more resistant to his word than most.

I'm not sure what to do. I thought that was a pretty rad price and since the tranny's good and I have most of the parts to convert over to a 6 bolt, if anything went wrong I'd be ok if I just found a shortblock.

I wanted to give you guys a chance to guide me here since i'm a bit nervous. The most i've paid for a dsm is 300 bucks and this is the most i've shelled out. I'm going to ask some local guys here if they know anything about the car.

Let me know what you guys think i'm very anxious to sign the papers and check out my ONLY 2g ;)

Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

As stated above, I would definitely buy it. Are you sure that is all it needs though?
