$500. I can understand if the shell was in decent shape, but you're looking at a beater with a blown engine, bad tires, dents, dings, and possibly rust, and you haven't even confirmed whether it's FWD or AWD.

it is the awd one, i cannot see any rust anywhere on the car, the paint is just faded, pretty severely.. so it is a GSX with 174000 miles, needs new tires and timing belt. with little dents and dings around the car.

My turn...

I am looking at purchasing a 91' Tsi for $3500. The car has 76 k on the odometer and is in immaculate condition. The story behind it is this, The car has the following professional installed earlier in the year by Extreme Motorsports:

AFC II
HKS BOV
Turbo Smart MBC
2 Gen Manifold
Tdo6 20g Turbo
Tial External Wastegate
RC 650 cc injectors
255 LPH Fuel Pump
Dual Friction Clutch
Balance Blue Printed
Forged Pistons & Rods
HKS Cams
FMIC/w 2.25" Piping
3'' Down Turbo Back Exhaust
I am sure a bunch of other stuff I am missing.

Anyway, I can see the exhaust, turbo, wastegate, fmic are installed and are as described. The guy I want to buy it from has some receipts but can not find them all so has said that he will get copies of all of the them extreme when they reopen on Jan 7th. He is not really sure which cams it has or what brand of pistons & rods are in it but is sure that they are forged. He also has said that he paid Extreme over 10k for all the work performed on the car this year (Which I believe because he paid $1200 just to have the afc11 and Bov installed. I took the car for a test drive and it seems to idle really well.....not sure if it really has cams or not. I got on it a little bit and it just was all over the road spinning the tires (even though it is awd) all through 1st and s2nd. Felt like a mid 12 second car (was running 18#) What are your guys opinion on this? Should I give him a deposit to hold the car on the basis that he is going to get the receipts? If in fact it has all that he said it has is the car worth $3500? There is one problem with the car.....The rear main seal is leaking. I can knock some money off of the price if I fix it myself, have done them before so not a big deal, or he said for $3500 he would pay extreme to fix it since they built the motor. I know this is allot to read but this car has been driving me nuts since I drove it the other night. I can't get it off my mind that I could pick up a car that can potentially run 11's reliably for $3500 or less. So anyways, You are the experts. Tell me what you of all this.

Im lookin to maybe buy a talon next week what do you guys think is it worth 5,000? Here is the list of mods. The car is pretty clean and dont really see any thing wrong with it. I do need to fix the windows he said they come off track or somethin sometimes when they get near the top is that an easy fix? I would like to hook up the a/c also are those parts easy to come by he has most the a/c parts but not all? Heres a pic of the motor I have alrdy seen the car once.

Check for leaks.

It is a stock car with an ACT clutch. Why would anyone pay more than $5600 for it with 104k?

I paid $7750 for mine with 52xxx miles on it.

and its fwd. That price seems about normal to me. It will probably have a lot of rust though coming from new york.

looks good, try to get him to lower the price though. Be careful with craigslist, I've dealt with some pretty shady people on there. Good luck!:thumb:

Sorry, but no 1g is worth 5 grand.Adding parts does not super-increase the value of the car.Now if that was a fully built race car, then yea.

max I'd tell anyone to pay is 4k, 5k is alot you might as well save a little more and get a 2g for a little more.

Plus one on the parts thing, after having one reliability/dependability seems to be key. Plus I hate buying already modded cars.

Hey!
Well to start off if this is in the wrong forum I'm sorry. Last night I went and took a look at a 92 GSX. It had a talon front and talon tails. The body had NO rust and seemed like it came from the factory (ie: All the body panel gaps looked perfect and everything was the same color). The car has a 16G turbo, Dejon FMIC, B&M short throw w/ shwarski (its something like that IDK how to sell it) shift kit, Thermal 3" Turbo back, Greddy TT, and a few guages. Thats the good stuff. Now some of the bad...

-I looked at the carfax and there was a major accident reported a long time back, but it has a clean title.
-The clutch was a little weird. When you press it theres nothing there until about a couple inches from the floor then it disengages and if you let off what-so-ever it it will reengage.
-When he did a pull where he hit alot of boost it would seem like it hesitated a little. He did say that it needed new sparks and wires so maybe thats the reason? It only did that on 1 of 3 pulls so....
-When he was letting it idle while we were talking before we took it for a drive it just killed. He said that he had brought it in before and they said it was the fuel filter. he had changed it and it stopped for a while and had just started up again. Like before that time while i was looking at the car it had done it twice.

He wants 3500$ for the car.

Does he have a performance clutch in the car? If so then its possible that is whats causing the quick engagement. My car was the same when I upgraded to a performance clutch. I had the guys at Clutch Masters set my clutch pedal because I didnt know if I had it right and they said all was fine. They said that most racers prefer their clutches to engage closer to the floor because it allows for better response and slightly quicker launches but it takes a lot of practice.

I would suggest pulling the plugs out and checking them. Make sure they are NGK plugs not Bosh. I would also suggest doing a compression test on the engine. I believe you want as high to 160 on each cylinder. 130 is close to service spec's from mitsu and you want the numbers about 5% away from each other. If I remember correctly.

As for the stalling it could be boost leaks or the ISC going out. My car would stall before I replaced the ISC because it could not control the idle drop from letting in the clutch

Make sure to ask him what kind of oil he uses as well, he should reply with Mobil 1 full synthetic.

Also check for any leaks on the car. Check the axles to make sure the boots are ok, check the engine mounts as well. Does he have a fuel pump of after market adjustable regulator for the fuel? Any way to control fuel? Its possible the hesitation you felt was knock.

id say 3k-4k the most you can find a better deal i got my talon tsi 3 months ago in almost mint condition bone stock for 3k

He did say something about a boost leak. I will check out all the boots and stuff and ill ask him about the clutch again today. Any one else have suggestions? Oh what is ISC? This will be my first DSM so im not sure on all of the abreviations...

Well I just got home from seeing the car again. I drove it and i got used to the clutch and it actully was really nice. He used Mobile 1 Synthetic. I set up a compression test for tomorrow so i guess i should just wait and see how that goes i guess? Does anyone else have any other suggestions on things i should check for??

I wouldn't touch it, unless it has amazing low miles, other then that i would look for something else cheaper thats better.
