Sounds like a hell of a deal to me, as long as what everone above has checked out good. Make sure you drive it for at least 20 min or so to let the motor warm up and run like it will when you drive it. Listen for noises and listen/feel the transmission when you shift it. Good luck bro

Of course this is what I thought, which is why I thought I would ask. He said he bought it wrecked and replaced the messed up parts. He also said he has replaced the timing belt, clutch and clutch fork, spark plugs and wires all just recently. It also has a new CD Player and all power options. Sounded like a really good deal to me even without paint.

check the timing and the turbo some people don';t knwo the diffenrence between the stock t 25 and t28 and check normal stuff blow by see if the timing belt is tight, i had that problem when i bought my 92 talon it was tight but when it started it loosened up and you get the rest.

Actually, I don't know if I would know the difference, since the only turbos I have ever dealt with were big.:thumb: Is there a number or something cast in the turbo to tell what turbo it is?

If you have anything to say, say it now. I have been reading the "How much did you pay for your DSM" thread. Looks like I could be getting a good deal.

####ing stupid, I know.

hey guys, here's my story. Ive been looking for a long long time for a car like this (black 1g TSI AWD 6BOLT/4BOLT). The exterior is honestly in the best condition ive ever seen any 1g, and this guy lives about an hour away from me. He is asking 3900 and the engine has 140k miles on it. This car is COMPLETELY STOCK.... it even has the stock radio still haha. That is really appealing to me, because i know some kid didnt throw an exhaust on, beat the hell out of it, and is now selling it. Anyways, the salvage title seems to be just an easy way for an insurance company to get rid of the client, because the guy was nice enough to show me the pictures of the car when the insurance took it, and all i can see is broken windows, and the paint is faded and marked up. This guy really fixed this car up nice, but i was wondering, is 3900 a bit much for a 1g with 140k on the engine, even though the exterior is in almost mint condition? I know i will have a hard time reselling the car, but that doesnt bother me, because i will most likely part the car out when im done with my project. Anyways, im going to see him on tuesday, and any feedback is appreciated. I was thinking about bringing 3400 cash, but thats if this is a reasonable price. thanks alot.

Ya 3900 is defiantly a bit much especially salvaged, My 96 with 72k perfect condition nothing done to it I got for 4500. With experience in buying a salvaged car, you do not know what could go wrong. The car I bought was salvaged and while doing 60 along a long corner the tie rod broke and I crashed into 2 trees at 60mph beecasue the breaks failed to. My suggestion is to look as long as it takes to find that one deal. It could take anywhere from 2 days (what it took me) to sadly 2 years, but it will be worth it in the end. Do not by a slavaged car unless you have it completely checked by a good mechanic and check the title.

wow thats a damn good deal.... 4500 for 72k miles..... wow. anyways, yah youre right you really dont know what could be wrong, but the pics just hvae smashed windows and a few dents on the door, but all that is fixed, so i really dont know. I guess ill keep looking for now, thanks.

well technically it was salvaged, but this guy bought it, fixed it up, and the title says *rebuilt*. does that make a difference?

well no casue you have to have it rebuilt for it to be legal on the road, the pd has to check it. Dude seriously offer him 1500 if he says no walk and look more.

I've bought 2 salvaged 91 awd's. They are fine if they are fixed to near perfect condition. Paying 3900 for a 91 awd is too much though. I wouldn't pay more than 2,500 for a 1g and it would have to be awd and in great condition for that price.

The most I would pay would be 1500. I'd shoot for 1000 though. With that rebuilt title the car is worth alot less then a normal title car.

Wow that's alot.....because the title is salvaged the value of the car comes way down!. And the miles are high too....I used to work selling cars from dealer auctions the car is no more then 1800 on the street...! And Auction price i could probably get that for a thousand buck or less, i would help you out if you didnt' live so far but be smart keep looking if this guy doesn't lower it....

How much would you guys pay for a 91 Stealth TT with 165k on the clock? Never wrecked, all standard options and runs as good as a car with 165 can. Looks like it needs belts and some standard maintenance.

LOL, if it's really a R/T TT than it's going to be a 5 speed.
Price will depend totally on what shape the car is in. 165k is getting up there but my 91 ES has 188k and if maintained it should continue to run for a few more years before needing a engine rebuild.

The twin turbo cars have several sigificant weak points, the trans and transfer case being the biggest. You can't source them from anything other than another so if they are worn out it's going to be expensive to keep the car running.

Steve

he said the lowest hed go would be 3500, because he bought it from the auction for 1k, put a new timing belt, etc. which cost him another 1000, and then he repainted and buffed out everything which cost him 1k. its a 92 btw. idk, the exterior is in such great condition, and i plan on rebuilding the engine down the road anyways. So the mileage doesnt really affect me engine wise. Im looking at it tomorrow, and im taking it a carshop, maybe AMS but theyre at the DSM shootout until tomrrow, so i couldnt book an appointment. but yeah, im going to take it somehwere to get fully checked out.
