Well to help you out on common things to look for check this site out 1000 Already Answered Q's , If body/interior is messed up use it to talk the guy down a lot (act like you know very little about cars and that you would have to pay to have someone to work on it ;) ). If you have a friend that's into dsm's take him with you to help you look for problems.

A while back he told me that it use to smoke really bad, but he started driving it a little and it cleared up.

The valve seals could be leaking, you should get a leak down test on it done.

I am new to this whole DSM thing, I am in Ontario, Canada. There's a 97 talon tsi awd for sale for $15,000 cdn which is about $9000 US. It is is great condition and only has 37,000 kms, is that a good price for this car cus i dunno much but willing to learn and i dont wanna get ripped off, and also is it easy to service these cars, because i know eagle was a division of chrysler but are parts and stuff still available?
Any help would be appreciated..

Hey guys i got a question for ya...a buddy of mines buddy has a 1991 talon TSI FWD and he said to me$1500 and i can take it. It has been taken care of, body is in good shape. The one thing im not crazy about is the 140,000 miles, but i think i can live with it until i get some money together for a rebuild. The car is his daily driver, no problems. I know it has exhaust on it, i beleive magnaflow. It comes with "drag struts" from what i have heard. The car has been to the track only a few times. The interior is in great shape also. It has a manual boost controller, brand new tranny, and a brand new ACT 2100 clutch. Should i do it? Give me some input please..much appreciated

If the car is mechanically sound, has had regular maintainance, and shows no problems, $1500 doesnt seem to bad. I would try to talk him down to the $1250 range though ;)

$1500 is a good price for a 1g Turbo FWD in good condition. But, like Dieselboy said, try and talk him down.

ALright guys tell me what you think my car is worth if i sold it private party. It's a black 95 tsi awd. Reconstructed title.58k on new engine. just did timing belt and brakes. centerforce dual friction clutch.apexi n1.intake.Apexi BOV.LO-tek gauge pod with autometer ultra-lite a/f gauge and boost gauge. GTS pro-beam light covers. Bomz Racing Adjustable spoiler. Custom all red taillights.

Very true, people cringe at a rebuilt (aka "stamped") title. I would pay between $5500-$6K for it given the miles on the motor and the mods. Id say ask $6500 obo , that way you can negotiate the price down if someone wants it, but reconciders because of the title.

I only paid $1500 for my FWD Turbo Eclipse, and it has nearly 160,000 miles on it now. I know every car is different, but mine still pulls hard as hell on factory engine, tranny, and turbo. I would get it. Once you go DSM, you'll never go back:thumb:

sounds good man, i am about to get a 91 gsx for 1000 but it needs a head gasket, transfer case, and clutch, but that sounds like a good deal if the car is in good condition.

That car still has some life in it. Sounds like a good price, expecially if it is still running sound. I agree with you, just get it and take all that money you just saved and look into a rebuild...

hey guys more news on the car...

i talked to his GF tonight and she said for another 100 he will include a upgraded intercooler..no idea if its FM or what...car has a shorty shifter, fuel pump, the drag struts as i mentioned, and the exhaust..she said the body is in good shape..parking lot dings... i am going to test drive it thursday wish me luck!

Besides squeaky noises and such, the only problems I've had with my 97 Spyder were:

1. the upper intercooler hose came loose twice.
2. the oxygen sensor died (causing horrible gas mileage)
3. reverse taillight switch came loose

Otherwise, the mistakes have been mine. In stock form, it is a really solid car (and the ladies love it!)

thanks... ill be sure to check that stuff out when i get it.. if i get it.... but is the car worth 8 g's am i gettin ripped? or is it a good buy?

If the car is physically sound (physically and mechanically) it is probably a good buy. check www.kbb.com for the blue book value. I would have it seen by a mechanic before everything is finalized. One hundred bucks could save you $8000.
