This is gonna get merged but I'll take a whack at it..We need more info, pics would help too..How many miles are on the car? How much of the work can you do yourself? What kinda mods are on the car?

That is entirely up to you. But I would never pay $3000 for a car without a working engine and a jacked up trans.

I mean you are looking at another grand to rebuild the trans, and at least another to rebuild the engine probably more.

i wouldnt buy the car either. its' not worth 3,000 as it sits thats for sure. as sooon as you get the car thats 3k gone and you need a new engine thats 1500 easy and as of the second gear popping out it depends how often.

What should I offer him? Or should I pass it up? As far as mechanical work I can do all my own, and the tranny, I got a bud that rebuilds granny's for a livIng. Or I can go new engine and tranny route too.

Offer him $500, it's a non-running hunk of scrap metal. And since you can't test drive it you don't know how the drivetrain and suspension work if at all. The guy has already shown that he can't maintain the car so why would anything be in good shape.

:) well I called him and offered $2k and he declined so I'll keep looking

you'll find the one :thumb: i personally wouldnt have offered more then $1,500. at that price if you had to you could probably make most if not all your money back parting it out if it came down to it.

my rule of thumb when i look for cars, is if its not running, its immeditaly worth half what it was running, if not less. because at that point your basically buying a shell. even if it has a motor in it, its not always a for sure thing that it can be rebuilt.

my friends friend is selling a 2g talon AWD Turbo for $600. it doesnt have alot of pull, he said its the turbo, he not building any boost. when i test drove it it was making a weird banging noise REALLY FAST (not engine block related)

can i assume it needs a new turbo or rebuilt?

and does it sound like a decent deal?

he needs the car gone tmrw (thursday) or hes scrapping it. LOL

everything is in working condition, shifts great, clutch less than 1000miles old. body in great condition.

should i take the risk and buy it? or should i let my brother buy it?

If you have the money and the knowledge, or more money then ya 600 for a running turbo awd car. Hows the body? If its dece you could part it out or fix er up and either way its a win :D

And ya 800 isnt bad make sure the turbo is good (no shaft play or side to side ) offer him a little less ;) but ya I would jump on it if I came across it local.

Im looking to buy my first DSM and found this 1995 Eclipse GSX Mitsubishi : Eclipse | eBay. I am going to look at it tomorrow and make a cash offer if its everything he says it is but it does have a surging idle problem and from what I read they can be a pain to diagnose on these vehicles. Also there is a clicking sound coming from the front passenger wheel well, sounds like it could be a CV to me. Please be sure to read the description and watch the walk around video and tell me what the max you would offer for this car. I would really appreciate everyone's opinion. I really want the car but I dont want to let my enthusiasm get me into a bad deal.

Small world, That's my Brother's gsx. I told him if he brought it to my area, I can easily sell the car for 5-6k within a week, but it's 12hrs away . I buy/build/sell TONS of these cars (Have a dozen now), And were doing 3-6 every month last year. Where I live, They sell extremly fast. I just bought 4 of them this month, And they were more then that car is listed on ebay for, And they were in non-running condition.

Ive been looking for an auto ive even passed up some nice cars because they are manual. I spoke with a guy who was driving a low 9 second Talon running 136 thru the traps at the Import VS Domestic shootout at the local strip and he told me under know circumstances should I buy a manual if I wanted to be serious about drag racing. I also talked with three other DSM drivers one with an auto and they all agreed auto is better for drag racing period. In fact the guy with the 9 second car called himself stupid for not running an auto but added he liked doing things the hard way. Also check out this link and see for yourself the times you can do with a auto and compare them to the manuals DSM 1/4 Mile Times - Automatic. I think you will see that an auto is just as good as a manual in a drag race setting even more so if your running bracket class.

im not doubting it sorry if i came at u the wrong way, yeah automatic is better for some things, i just find manual more fun to drive

No worry's I didn't take your comment as an insult :). I get questioned all the time about why I would choose an auto over a stick so im used to it. I'm just trying to spread the auto gospel to all the :dsm:DSM:dsm: faithful :D. I do agree though that manual transmissions are more fun to play with. But im not looking to play im looking to win :thumb:.

1995 420a, N/T, MT GS model with 160K

Just an update I sold my 1995 within 5 miles of the first time I drove it with the engine back in it. I did a full engine rebuild and put new oil seals everywhere like driveshafts, crankshaft seals and the engine was good to go. It still ran like crap at idle (I got the car with blown head and the owner swore it ran perfect - yeah right) so to fix that problem I replaced the MAP sensor. So I fired it up and drove it to a body shop to go talk to someone and the secretary wanted to buy it cause it was cute, the body man wanted to buy it cause it got great mpg and the owner REALLY wanted to buy it because his kid needed a cool car to drive around in that didn't cost much. The fact that I did a complete engine rebuild, hoses belts and all that didn't even matter to any of these people! They just wanted THAT car. The body was rough so the body shop people didn't care one bit about the bad paint all over the thing. :) I basically was offered a lower amount of money and a free paint job on a large full size truck that they need to paint for me. I declined and they offered me even more money so I sold the sucker right there on the spot. 2 grand and a 2 tone paint job with clear coat for my Dodge truck. I put a TON of work into that car so it's nice to see them continue making the car nice. It's in the middle of a black paint job and they already have the new rims and tires waiting for it. As long as you can do your own work on these cars they are a pretty good investment. I had all my neighbors, friends and mechanics around town asking me what I wanted to sell it for. People need cheap good mpg cars bad.
