Alright guys so I've been looking into getting a gst or gsx as you know from my last post. So heres the deal I found 1 but it pretty much needs a new engine bay. The chassis only has 55k miles on it but under the hood the only thing the car does have really is an: engine with no head looks like the turbo is still there and the stock bov but besides that looks like everything else is missing. (the tranny is still on the car and its a salvage car in an insurance auction).

<a href="http://s557.photobucket.com/albums/ss16/arthurizme/?action=view&amp;current=enginebay.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss16/arthurizme/enginebay.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

there's the picture

IMO 500 or less and i'd say go for it, but anything over that probably not. Although depending on rust and stuff you could probably part it out and make a few bucks.

I can get it for pretty cheap not sure I wanted to ask you guys how much you think it's worth maybe 500-1000?

Depends, worth is completely subjective, but... probably 1000 in parts. Now would it be worth it to you if you actually wanted the car to restore, thats up to you.

*Edit* didn't see your last post.

In that case then it really depends on how much work you can do yourself because it could cost thousands to get up and running or it could cost a few trips to the junkyard for parts and a shit ton of beer

well I am actually looking to buy it fix it and drive it but I will keep that in mind.

Well I know a guy who says he can get me parts for cheap and I can do most of the work myself it's not too big of a problem. My dad has a friend who owns a shop they would let me use there tools and what not to fix it. The only deal is I think it probably needs everything new under the hood you think maybe Id still be able to use the engine it comes with??

So its not worth trying to restore and get running again?

I still see the head but no turbo, and the t belt is snapped so probably engine is no good.

sorry, I forgot what the piece that goes on top of the head is called the 1 that covers the cams and spark plugs go on.

Not trying to be mean but if you have to ask then its probably gonna be a bit beyond your capabilities while still being cost effective.

You'd be better off just looking for something else. Just be patient and you'll find something eventually.

Hard to tell without seeing this car in person. The head is exposed to all the dust/dirt where the car has been sitting. Most likely dirt has traveled into the engine. You will have to pull the engine out completely and clean it out thoroughly. Just little things like that to consider before jumping into this big project. Also another thing you should consider. Make a list of the things it could need, like new engine, turbo, intercooler piping, alternator, radiator, radiator fans and hoses, valve cover, gaskets, timing belt component kit, MAS, 02 housing, down pipe etc. Price all these parts out, then add what the car could cost you(600-1000) and if the car is still worth it to you then get it.

I would say it would only be worth it to you if you have the time and space to work on it that is a big factor or else you are just taking on somebody headache. Unless of course he is giving it to you and in that case investing money into something that is free or practically free is well worth alot of the effort. I personally wouldn't buy anything that I cant verify with my own two eyes moves but its your project

That's an unusual amount of dirt under the hood, looks like a flood car. Pass

"You know what? This will decimate all, after you put about five grand in it or more. If you have to, overnight parts from Japan."

With me it would come down to rust....from the pictures is looks moderate to minimal. Assuming the bottom end is fine it looks like a good project. I would drop the oil pan before making a decision. Another thing, assuming the rust is minimal and you don't see any metal when dropping the oil pan I would offer some where in the $800 range. Hope that helps.

As said previsouly, no valve cover, plenty of dirt, (probably a flood car) timing belt is snapped, so valves and pistions are probably shot/damaged, and no turbo, I say pass. Not to mention if you have to ask what a valve cover is, I gonna go out on a limb and say this may be over your head/not worth your money. (not trying to be a jerk)

I would pass on it personally and find something that you feel safe buying without really needing an opinion on.

It looks trashed, no turbo, no idea what the internals look like, compression tested?, crank end play in spec? It's a very large gamble. If it's cheap enough it's at the least a possible cheap shell or a parts car.

I see no strut tower rust though. So that's a plus. :) But like said previously, this will take many thousands of dollars, and at least a year to fix. Not to mention a LOT of skills. It can be done with plenty of time and patience and the know how to do it right. But if it's not something you will have the time or energy to do, then pass and keep looking.

Keep in mind that cars like this usually end up being worse than what you think. I bought a talon with jumped timing, and the next thing you know I had to replace damn near every part of the engine cause bearings were spun, alot of the pulleys and what not were junk, e.c.t. It almost always turns into a bigger project, and costs more money than you think. I wouldn't run that engine without taking it apart and rebuilding/refreshing it. It will take a descent amount of time, and money to take everything out, get it all checked by a machine shop, and put all back together with new pumps, and gaskets. If your going to mod it, then you will probably want to replace some of the oem things with aftermarket stuff as well. It will be a pretty damn big project, and you may end up replacing more shit, and spending more money than you thought on it, thats how it always works LOL.

Chinese turbo, chinese parts, terrible tuning solutions, most likely a bullshit parts list anyway - and you want to give up your nice, comfortable, reliable car..

This is a terrible idea. My advice is based one me having owned both an '03 Audi TT 225 Quattro Roadster and four turbo DSMs.
