reply to page 217 from page 218, when you see a salvage title on a unibody chassis car, its bent.
Asin the chassis is geometrically modified in the cabin space, hit in the rear the front may be bent.
Hit in the front slightly the rear may be bent.
This can be "fixed" with a good guy and some time behind a few different tools and some coilovers yet it will never be the same....
Unless you cage the thing.
 
to me if its been wrecked, use it as a rally car or a track car, i notice alot of people will get hit in there fender and say, :cry: oh its totaled :rolleyes: bang it out and fix it, major body damage/frame damage, well, gut it and now you have a project race car, find a new DD if you are so worried about looks, thats just me. :|
 
so, here is my (hopefully it doesnt sell before i get to it!) new dsm...94 talon tsi. it needs a little work im aware, but i really wnat to know about these NEW parts, teh turbo and rebuilt tranny. but here, take a gander, let me know what you think!

oh yeah, first mods im doing right off the bat:
aftermarket boost gauge
manual boost controller
and POSSIBLY wideband o2 kit (innovative lc-1 w/g5 gauge..sexy!!)
 
yup, he isnt back til wed...and already has offer..or he is trying to get more than 1200. rebuilt tranny and newer stock turbo? not sure...im a little wary, but it does have front headlight smashed in a little and front fender...its not too hard, bolt on fender? or is it spotweld unibody like other cars???
 
well, I found a car i may want. It's a 1996 Talon TSi Fwd.
5-speed with
82,423 miles
comes black, paints great, little sunbaking on top.
no rust, no dings
comes with 17" rims and tires with 0 miles.
Also comes with a fresh new 3" exhaust made by Apexi.

I have a 95 eclipse GS. Which is a great DD.
Would this car be a good DD and Daily tuner for me? especially for $1700????

sounds like a good deal for that price. did you drive it? does it smoke? sit there and let it run for a while to make sure nothing is leaking. i bought my car for a little more than i should have, but mostly for the motor. good luck on your buy
 
Sounds like a good deal, yeah it would make a good DD as long as you keep up on the maintance. Go check it out in person and take a really good look at it.
 
For that Price thats a great deal, BUT I would drive it first. make sure its not smoking or anything. Get in all the gears and look for grinding. If u can try and it it on a highway even and make sure the gears dont pop out. and also by taking it on a good strech u can see it the tires and rims are balanced. even more so you can get into some boost and see if u have an issue building boost in the case it may have small leakes, but yes this is just a little tid bit iv learned buying cars like theses.
 
Sounds like a good deal. Buy it, do a T-belt and water pump job and remove the balance shafts, change the oil, trans fluid, plugs. Then wash and wax and take pictures!
 
I hate to be this guy, but!, there's GOTTA be something wrong with it if its that cheap...let the car idle for like 10 minutes and just sit there and talk to the guy, make sure there's no smoke in the exhaust, or smell any burning oil. check to make sure the temp is right where it should be. and after idling go take it on a short romp to make sure everything sounds/runs ok.

p.s. there are alot of people in this "game" that will pull one over on ya to get the cash and get rid of a problem. So make sure you're covered and ready to do some PROPER maintenance to this car when you get it.
 
go look at and drive it. let it sit while running. check for smoke. definitely get it on the highway if possible, feeling for tire/wheel problems. just be thorough on your inspection. mine is ratty, but i knew it when i purchased it. course mine had a new head, clutch, fuel pump and the windows worked. plus! haha

just be thorough.
 
thanks everyone. Just a few questions, im used to my gs running a qaurter of the way up when it fully heated, What do these cars generally run at?? Also, what oil pressure does it run at when idling and when say at like 3-4000 rpm?? I appreciate you input, ill let it sit and idel for 10-20 mins while talking, and then take it for a spin. When should the car be building boost and at what rpm does it reach full boost stock, ill look at that on the highway. Thanks guys!!
 
well, the car looks good. 82,000 original miles and it has service records done on it for the past 3 years from the owner, well taken care of leather. The only thing i saw wrong with it was the top of the car has a lot of sun baking, enough for me to want to paint the whole car. It seems like it gets into boost really fast, pulled strong all the way till redline through first, second and third. got it into every gear, even reverse, no grinding. Did some hard turns right and left to make sure of no crank walk (got me scared) The motor is all stock except for an apexi 3" turbo back. 17" motegi mr-7 rims, I have 18" motegi mr-7's to put on it though. It was left running after my drive for about 25 mins. The temp gauge was at a little over 1/2 and after a while of driving it dropped to 3/8. (thermo opened?) The car seemed to drive straight no shaking at 90 mph, hasnt been lowered yet so it was a very smooth ride compared to my other dsm's. I think I maight want this car ll be there tomorrow with the cash so tell me now again what to look for if theres anything more!! Thnaks
 
I had a car with a baked hood and someone told me I could wetsand the clearcoat off and respray a new one. Maybe that would work in your case or just go get a Maaco job done
