I wouldn't get this one because of the salvage title. Keep looking for a better one. I don't know if you want to go back a few years or not but, you may be able to find turbo model for about 3k.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I appreciate it. A few years back I almost bought a 96 GST. I bailed out on that too because it seemed to be leaking oil somewhere. Now that my TDI is trashed I really want a car. I really like eclipses... but maybe I should look around some salvaged auction houses for an Audi a4 or a eclipse 4g63. I don't like mustangs at all though. Never been my kind of car I suppose. Some souped up ones look/sound really nice, but considering I don't make too much money with my current job , gas would be a big issue.

I also found this:1990 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD 2.0 DOHC TURBO(Eclipe GSX, Laser RS-T)

The 1g talon is pretty sick. As well as being a 4g63. I think.

I also found this (1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD Turbo) but the transmission is a problem. It looks clean. But how much would a swapped trans run me? Considering I could do the labor.

You guys are really helping me out a lot :thumb::D I decided I should probably not buy that 2g 420A because the CEL. What do you guys think about these talons? Just curious. I really like the 2nd one but the tranny is the main question there.

2700 is way too much for the first tsi for sure. the second one potentially cause the tranny being bad gives you an opportunity to get a brand new fully built unit

I'm not sure how much that would run =D Do you mean just a new tranny? I'm trying to find a site. I would most likely put aftermarket clutch kit in it. I could offer him 1k for it perhaps. But I mean the rest of the talon looks sick. Including rims OMG. And your right on first one. Checked KBB and in excellent condition it runs about $1,900. Lowest at around $1,200....

I would say pass on it. It has a salvage title, a CEL, and a messed up wire harness. It really sounds like it would be a money pit to me. It doesn't sound like it was well maintained so things will most likely start breaking soon.

-When was the last timing belt change? That is an expensive thing right there if it hasn't been done in a long time (unless you do it yourself, and then it is still $200+).

-How did it get the salvage title? Was it in an accident or something? A salvage title will destroy your resale value if you try to resell the car. Run the VIN on it to make sure it isn't stolen or something.

-What exactly is the CEL for? You should at least have it checked before you buy it. You can rent a code checker from autozone or a similar store for free (they usually just ask to hold your credit card or something will you use it)

-Messed up wire harness/ electrical problems can be a big mess. They can also cause fires and cause the car to run shitty.

Those are things to think about..

I got a decision thatll make ppl happy or mad at me! Ok Some idiot totaled my mustang and i got $3000 back! And ma parents found another musatng but with a SVO Motor in it BEAUTIFUL!! runs nice! and i love the car! but then found a 91 Talon AWD UNMOLESTED! its clean paint clean interior! Motor Good Condition!! a DSM'ers Dream! And now i dont know what to do! the mustang later on will be worth more than the talon and less likely to break..... BUT i love them so much! LOL im just lost right now! Any 1 have any suggestions? :talon:

LOL hard to say that i can find parts left and right for both those cars an make them both run hard! and the mustang is allready in the 13's he has some shyt done! the talon is stock!

go test drive the 2nd one, it doesnt sound like a bad car. See how "bad" the tranny actually is. Alot of time you can find a used tranny in good shape for $400 ish or get one rebuilt for $1000ish

Get the talon and ditch the 5 slow.

dont rice it out leave the body stock do the norm like timing belt so on and lets start tuning and you will have a sleeper for a DD and kill your mustang buddies on the track.

Im sorry I really dislike mustangs my friends have em and I just cant stand them.

I have a '91 Talon AWD with a lot of modifications. I used to have an '89 Mustang GT. I actually love older mustangs and DSM's, but I must say that after having both my Talon wins hands down.

I would go with the Talon. I like the idea of AWD. It all comes down to personal preference. If you go to a Mustang forum, most will tell you to go for the Mustang.

well heres going to be the deciding factor is this a daily driver? do you have more than one job? do you know how to work on cars? I figured out along time ago that dsm stands for doesnt save money!!! there expensive toys and never fast enough !!!!

i work at autozone part time go to skool for Automotive tech and my father has a mechanic/peformance shop! so i have a background and ive been born around 5.0's and ive owned 1 dsm an ####ing love it i think i may go for the dsm!

I live in the Bay Area. A bit north of SF. And alright. I will try to arrange for that. As long as its for sale. $400-500 does not sound bad. As long as the car is in good mechanical condition besides the tranny. And I really like the car so =D

Oh my bad. I live up in Santa Rosa.

personally i miss RWD, but i wouldn't ever trade my AWD talon for a mustang. You can build that talon up to beat the 5.0 with little issue and at the end of the day a 1st gen will attract a lot less attention from the cops. I was gonna say the talon would be good in the winter too... but that wont matter much where you are. still go for the talon, and if you plan out your mods and talk to people on this site about your plans you can get that 1g properly modded and looking good .

side note: most of the people on this site aren't big on the all bold or intentional misspelling

it has about 100K on the body, 5k on the motor. the car has been sanded down so there is no paint. no rust

the guy who built the car said that the topline pistons were forged. he said they were discontinued a while back. Has anyone ever heard of forged topline pistons? even ones from some time back?

philmore - Please don't not cross-post on this site. One thread is enough. I deleted your other thread.

Also, please pay attention to which forum you start your thread in. This topic is neither "problem diagnosis", nor is it "appearance/interior/exterior".

Thread moved to the Newbie Forum.

PS - Pictures of the car would help greatly.

ok, so my car 1995 talon tsi awd premium auto in good shape all private party values
edmonds says $1939 wha oh no no no
KBB says $4335 not bad
and on kbb for same car, only an eclipse $ 4600

why is the eclipse worth more?

LOL i have an 02 mustang with a reprogramed ecu i did and dynoed at my school, v6 puts 245 hp and 208 ft/lb to the ground. but my talon is still faster :talon: :thumb:

This car has much more potential for a base to start if you want power. Since you said you're not really in to racing, AWD Turbo isn't something you exactly need. Either way I'd talk him down closer to 1K. If you know what you're doing swapping in a new transmission would take a days work and only 300 for a used one. Rebuild it thats a little more time, but still only $300.
