I was thinking the hp was too low too but i don't know enough about DSMs. I am a 3kGT Vr4 guy. The tune would have to be really conservative or maybe other possible problems.

I'm probably gonna check this car out in a week for my brothers first car. I'd normally be looking at something cleaner, but this deal may be too good to pass up.
Its a 95 TSI AWD swapped from auto to manual with 77k on the clock -$1000.

The body has no rust or dents, but its riced out and will take some work to get it back to stock and looking good again. Its been sitting for 2 years but the guy thinks it will start up.
The battery's in the back, and I notice it needs a timing belt cover.
What I know so far is that the motor was basically rebuilt recently by the guys friend, he says piston rings and bearings were replaced, but of course there are no receipts. He said the water pump, and timing components were probably replaced. He said he had bigger injectors and a bigger turbo, and his only real problem was tuning. Now its back to stock w/t25 and he thinks it will run, even though it has been sitting. Tranny and rear diff were swapped from auto to manual and clutch is pretty new.
also: eibach pro-kit, tokico shocks, oem carbon fiber hood, new cv shafts and wheel bearings,
walbro 255, stage 3 clutch

If I go to check this out, and it seems to drive well, I think we might do this.
I know its risky, and I'm going off this guys word, but the price is right.
Anyone see any potential problems? Is it worth the risk?
thanks

For the price, I would scoop that up, even it were just to keep around for parts or part out.

He said its a 1991 Eagle TSI... AWD, with a turbo, and LSD. I don't really know what any of that is....

Is that a good combinaiton of stuff to have, or did I get screwed. Well I guess I couldn't get screwed to bad, he just gave the thing to me.

Any ideas on what I should do with it? And if I were to just sell it, how much would it be worth? couple hundred at most right? Its a pretty old car, but the body of it is really straight.

What do you guys think?

-Calvin

Looks like I'll probably do it, hopefully it starts up, its been 2 years.
Its my brothers money, not mine. If I had the money it'd be in the driveway already, i just don't want to feel responsible if it turns out to be a headache for him (he's only 17).
Exterior is hideous imo, we'll have to chisel off that rear bumper. Wost part is that its got shaved door handles, so we'll have to find a new set of doors. Luckily there are some parts cars around, and I've got lots of 2g parts leftover from my 2gnt.
THe guy wasn't exactly clear on if it had a clear title or not though...

Tail lights are ugly....

If it has a title then yep 1k is fine

If it has no title then tell him 50 if he complains tell him you are gonna report him to the cops for selling a car with no title and since there is no title he cannot prove its his. Not to mention trying to get a title for something like this almost always not worth it.

Not yo mention if it has no title your best to part it out and make 3k off it.

How much would you pay for this. A 97 TSi AWD, runs and drives but does neither well. Has 82k on the odometer. The motor is knocking. The guy says it was just re-built, with new rings, bearings, and gaskets. He said it ran find until his transmission blew.

When the transmission gave out he swapped in a 96 trans from a wrecked car. Of course their were problems from the start. The car started knocking, the transmission grinds badly in first and Reverse. He said he has drove it about 20 miles before it locked the rear wheels. Which I'm thinking is because he put a 96 transmission with a 97 transfer case.

The body is in ok shape, has about 5-6 small dings. Has a full Eclipse 2Gb swap. The only major problem is whoever tried to remove the rear antenna did a horrible job and their is a hole about the size of a 50 cent piece from where it looks like they just hammered the antenna in. The passenger door handle is also disconnected due to being replaced and the guy could not get the thing reattached. Also looked over the car and it appears to be pretty rust free, especially compared to other DSM's in the area.

The car is completely stock with stock air box and exhaust, fully loaded with sunroof, power everything. Everything works, it starts and runs fine besides the knocking. Also has a Exedy Stage 3 clutch I believe he said. The tires have plenty of tread left on them.

The guy is asking $1000 for it with a brand new never opened walbro 255. I don't have any pictures but I will try to get some this week.

Should I be worried about the rear if the car locked up due to having a bad 96 trans/97 x-fer case combo? Thats my only main concern, as I can do all the body work, and engine work. But I know LSD rear's are expensive brand new and sometimes hard to find on the used market.

Well it sounds like it needs a motor, tranny, AND transfer case. I wouldn't give more than $500 for it. Sounds like he's really beat on it.

Hey guys, I found a Talon it looks pretty good so far only thing that I don't like is that it is a FWD Talon but are the FWD's still fast? I'm looking for a reliable all season car, but I'm going to keep up with all the maintenance on the forum thread Here's the link to the car tell me what you think about it and the price on it, Thanks
I'm trying to email him to figure out the millage etc, he didn't list a number.

Does not look bad.

I would take a look at it if i had the money, but i can find things like that for less than half. It nots that bad of a price but i need more pics, details... ETC...

If you dont know a thing about DSM's have someone near you look at it. I would but you gotta pay for me to get up there.
