That sounds pretty good. I have never done any transmission work. Yet alone any engine swap. Mostly very simple replacements. But I would be wiling to try. There should be guides and I can always come here for help. I am more then willing to learn. Also.. I do race once in a while. Not often.. but I think the awd is pretty cool in any case. I prefer this car to 420a because it can have potential as long as I want it to.



I talked him down to 1200. He won't go any lower.

So this guy says hes selling his TSi AWD for 3k, has 218,000kms with a rebuilt engine/tranny at 170,000. can anyone tell from these pics if its a TSi or not(theres no badges on the doors and theres no wing.) Thanks.

It's a TSi; as for AWD/FWD, can't tell from the pictures.

You know what though, it's a good deal but i'm thinking your going to get what you paid for. Make sure it passes inspection and check vehicle history on carfax or something like that.

And being from NS myself, make sure you check that thing for rust, especially the strut towers with that kind if milage on it. You can even see it in the pics and it mentions it in the add. Looks patched together.. I have no doubt that car had a ruff life back there.

way to tell if its turbo by vin engine is indicated by eighth digit of the vin. 90-92 models a U indicates DOHC Turbo on 93-94 a F indicates a Turbo engine.

yea i was thinking that, i was also looking at a 98' GSX with 140,000kms but its 9k so id have to save up like $2,000 more .

Don't buy that car. Definitely not worth it.
You saw the engine bay pics, right?

Just screams hard life with neglect, even though it looks like someone tried to make it go fast. The rust towers look pretty serious too. Pun intended.

You'll find a better deal elsewhere.

+1 ^^^^ i don't think i have ever seen a engine bay that looked that bad.. honestly. Best advice would to be stay away from that car and continue your search for a DSM. 2,800? you will easily be putting that back into the car with fixing the problems that will arise from that car. 218k.. when was the last time the tb belt was changed? How about oil? Not to mention how is that trans gonna last?

Yeah, you can get really better for this price !!

Its hard to buy a dms when you never bought 1, you have so many thing to pay attention.
Try to find some1 who's a dms lover and inspect them with him, road test, etc...

And yes ! if it as a turbo under the hood, its TSI ! (if you have only a picture of the engine bay, look before the air filter, if it have a MAF)

Doesn't sound bad if the engine and everything else is sound. A 6 pack of beer and 2 hours and you can have the tranny dropped! Maybe 4-5 if it's your first time.

Looks like an ebay special car, but that doesn't make it a bad buy

Also, did anyone notice anything from the first talon ? It has an aftermarket front bumper (no talon emblem, or maybe someone shaved it off), no rear 2gb spoiler; but it doesn't have sideskirts

well if its an ebay IC and turbo i wouldn't trust it though. and i did notice the badge being shaved and the wing, its why i like it, to bad about the huge amount of rust, when i first looked at it it didn't look so bad as it does .

whats wrong with an ebay fmic and pipe haha, its all the same but with no big advertizement on it. My car on just 15psi on a 16g made 295whp with a ebay core

well the whole reason I'm buying a new talon is because the ebay turbo on my Probe basically exploded.

The car i am trying to purchase has the mods listed below. Also has drive train parts that I did not list because thats not my concern. He said his car put down 335 awph on 19 lbs of boost on a conservative tune. Does this sound normal with the mods listed below?


Engine:

• Completely redone 2.3 litre stroker motor Slowboy Racing Stage 1 stroker kit. (.40 over Wiseco 8.8 to 1 pistons, manley connecting rods, acl bearings)
• Balance shafts removed
• Completely reworked head with REV springs, high performance lifters, titanium retainers HKS 264 intake and exhaust cams
• Multi-layer copper head gasket

Fuel:

• 660 cc FIC injector
• Walbro 255 lph fuel pump.

Electronics:

• Dsmlink
• S-AFC II
• Eprom-ecu

Turbo:

• 50 trim turbonetics turbo

The car was tuned at Infinite Speed and Performance by Brad Brooks himself.

everything here sounds pretty legit. depending on how much he's selling it for i would definately go for it. as far as drivetrain goes, you should be safe till about 400hp
