I'd also say get a manua, especially since its just going to be a fun carl. Auto's may be be more consistent, but anyone can push a pedal down.

Go for the 5spd lots of fun and if something breaks just replace it with something better.

Im looking at buying a 1991 Laser RS with 120k miles on it. Non turbo 2.0, auto, FWD, nice body and interior. Lost its timing belt so its a trashed motor.
My question... What are my engine options for this car? Long block crate engines available? Or am I going to spend the next year searching for a reman head and misc parts to rebuild it myself?

I live in Fairbanks Alaska, so there aren't exactly many options for used car parts here.. just not enough people living here and so not many cars.. so a used running motor is probably out of the question...

What are my engine options?

BTW, this car is for sale at our Dodge/Chrysler dealer for $1200!! For a 17 year old car with a blown motor!! Just goes to show what our car industry is like here... ughh Im only going to offer them $400 at most for it, if I can find a motor..

1200 is a joke its worth maybe 1000 if it is running, 300 is a decent price cause now it is essentially a parts car. id look at something else.

Id tell him 400 or less cause if the t belt went that means the car was not taking care of, and its not running so you cant prove everything else is in great shape nor like i said everything was taking care of obliviously not if the t belt went.

If he says anything more then 500 tell him to suck you off and find something else better.

Dam yeah i wouldn't pay $1200 for that.....I paid $700 for a 90 laser rst FWD with a blown tranny and looking back i think i over paid by ay least $200 but you can buy rebuilt heads or you canrebuld the head and get it going for probly $500-$800 depend on some of the part you get. It might even be a litttle more

Guys, I need some help to decided.

There is a 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD

And here is the ad. for it

I have a 1992 Eagle Talon TSI AWD that is completely stock with 180,xxx on the engine and transmission. It is a 6-bolt (pre 5/92) and is also a 5-speed.

I bought this car with a cracked manifold and replaced it with a 2g manifold. While I was taking the studs out I noticed that it was also missing a couple and that they had been broken off in the head. This is causing a huge exhaust leak. I have had the timing belt and all of the pulleys replaced by RevLine with paperwork to prove it. All of the tires are in great shape.

Just today (3/14) the engine began to quietly knock or tick, I was on my way home so I continued to drive it and now it is somewhat loud. I haven't located where it is coming from. So it could be many things as simple as a lifter.

I am asking $1,200 OBO. no major body damage only some hail dents on the hood and there are some dents by the doors because I guess somebody tried to break into it before I owned it.

According to my other treads about my engine, if it is still in good shape, I would like to do and complete engine swap. because his engine has higher milage and knock a bit. and have exhaust leak.

Here is couple questions,
1. so what about the studs out? where is it and if I swap my engine will it be fine?
2. timing belt and all of the pulleys replaced, so that means what is good... the head?
3. will the transmition be still good? Is FWD clutch different then AWD clutch?
4. How much should I offer him...

Thanks guys, please help!!

Steven

I wouldn't evan do it at all if you are looking to go turbo charged. Way 2 much work. But if you just want it to drive it. offer 200. The junk yard wont evan give that much for it. the worse problem is the head needs to be rebuilt because some or all the valves are bent. You might evan get lucky and just need to replace the timing belt. ( very rare but it happened to me) But as said earlier, the condition the vehicle is in shows it wasen't taken care of, and you might end up kicking your self in the ass for buying it.

Good Luck

No. Wait for a running turbocharged (awd if you like). With one like you are describing there will likely be other things wrong that you can't tell right away. It will cost you more to fix this one than buying a running one thats a turbo. I see stock running ones all the time for around $1500 on craigslist.

Personally, I wouldn't buy it because like the guy said above, you'll end up paying more to fix that one than you would buying a running car. Keep looking around for a running turbo DSM. I don't know how much you have to spend but I just saw a 91 Galant VR4 for sale in Anchorage. It's in great condition with 123,000 miles. It's on craigslist for $4000.

I bought my 92 laser rs turbo awd for $600 bucks in perfect running condition. That is a crazy price for a non turbo 1g. Look aroud bud and im sure you will find a better deal.

Think its worth it? I paid 3500 for the 90 talon, completely rebuilt, etc....and i have someone who wants to trade me a 95gst for it. Any opinions would be appreciated.

^^asking too little!!!! LOL imho

I second that...........you could probably get alot more outta it but if you want it gone and need the money then...........but don't go any lower. BTW what is the milage.........you don't have it listed.

I would be worried about those blinkers on the fenders. Depending how they were put on a hole might have been drilled for wiring. That could get expensive to patch the hole up.
