Ok, so I just found a GSX that is all together, nearish to me (as near as you can get when its across the state) and am thinking about it as well as the one missing the head and ecu. Here is his post with pics and mods, he wants $4000.
Sioux Falls Racing :: View topic - 1995 Eclipse GSX

This is what he has to say in his ad:
Well I found a newer gsx so this one is officially up for sale...i know i haven't had it long but i just bought it ### i couldn't find a '97 or newer that i liked...i have an offer on it and its na be sold sunday if no one in this area wants it...i'd personally rather have it sold in this area...Price $4,000 and it has 126,000 miles on it....also has a rebuilt title on it but it was wrecked in 1996-1997 and hasn't been since as far as i know...car is amazing and has no signs of the ...give me a call if you want to look at it...

I asked about the wreck. And if its sever and somethin I dont want to deal with I will see if this one is sitll for sale and where it is at:

So the question is (ruling out expenses to bring em home) would buying the non-running one and getting it running with a new ECU (can get non-EPROM for free), head (friend can get a hook-up on fully ported and polished for cheap), and exhaust (with a few buddies and a weekend I am sure I can get a full exhaust on and only buy supplies) be cheaper than buying the running GSX in Sioux Falls for 4k?

Hey guys,
So after getting screwed over by getting sold a car with a clean title (which ended up having a bent frame, so it should have had a salvage title), plus numerous other things, I'm back looking for a car.
I found this one that seems good. I called the guy and he will take $4,000 for it and theonly thing wrong is that it has a crack in the upper passenger side windshield(so he says). The reason why he wants $5,000 is that he has a t4 turbo that he is wanting to sell with it as well.
My main question is the t4 worth the extra $1,000? I have no clue what kind it is, only that it is a t4 turbo kit.
Also, the car is 7 hours away and so I'm not sure about making a drive to take a look at a vehicle that I might buy. I have heard about Carchex, where they will do a 150pt inspection and carfax for about $160.00. There is also BuyerGuardian that will inspect and act as an escrow, for about $480.00. They also will do shipping management (meaning I still pay for shipping). I just don't want to get screwed again, as I'm not hugely mechanically inclined :(

Do you guys think that the turbo is worth an extra $1,000 and should I use one of these services? Thanks for any help guys and I'm asking on her because I know you guys are extremely helpful!

p.s - the car with the bent frame is going back to his owner and he is refunding the money to avoid being sued...

as you said in you post. What do you mean a "t4 kit?" like with the turbo, fmic etc. or just the turbo it self. turbo it self is not worth 1000 -_- if thats what your asking

i'm assuming it is the kit with the fmic and piping, etc...

I think that the point of the turbo is that you can go and get a SS Autochrome T4 for somewhere around $350 new... you could also go and buy a GT40R from a place like Punishment Racing for $1900... just knowing what the flange is tells you next to nothing about the actual capabilities of the turbo... I would say that if that's all the info he's wanting to share, it's definitely not worth it.

Gotcha, I'm new to turbo's so bare with me. Also, he said it usually costs around 2-3k for what he has. That's all I really know. He said if I don't want it, he'll just put it onto his GS that he has.

id be more concerned with everything else on the car, like drivability (do the windows work, does it leak, how is the suspension, and other things. If he things a turbo is going to sell the car, then he wants to take away from anything else that may be wrong with a car. A Fast DSM is only as good as how long its going to be on the road, and not in your garage doing nothing.

Right-o.

That's why I plan on investing in maintenance instead of mods. I plan on selling it later and I live in some hot ass weather. No ac in a vehicle is gonna make it harder to sell because they'll want a deduction in my listing price. I think that's why a lot of members on here stress about doing all necessary maintenance,i.e timing belt, fluid checks, belt checks, spark plugs, compression test, etc. before modding.

Oh, I definitely know that. I was just trying to not make another thread on "Do you think this car is worth the money". I know it kind of is that and I apologize for that. I was just wondering what your guys opinions were on that. Thanks.

P.S - Has anyone ever used CarChex?

Hey,
I was actually wondering if there is anyone in the area of that car, that would be willing to take a look at it for me? It is in New Cumberland, PA. Thanks and please let me know. I'd appreciate it and am willing to pay. Thanks guys.

ok so i got a dilemma,

there are 2, 95 talon's both awd and turbo

one is an auto with a rebuilt transmission and new stock fuel system
70k miles and only 3500 dollars

the other is a 5 speed all stock nothing redone 87k miles and is 5500

i want to know what you think?

I would probally go with the automatice one. If your goign to drag race any you just cant out shift an automatic, plus it want miss a gear unless its slipping. But the 5 speed is a lot funner to drive. So look at it if your going to drag it or everyday driving fun.

Get the 5 speed and talk him down. If the other one is stock, esp fuel, you know he doesnt have anything special, so get the manual awd.

THATS CHEAP! Both of them! I would also say get the Manual, if you get the auto you will always rethink it and wonder. No you can't outshift an auto, but if you ever plan on racing any auto x or anything the auto is not going to be sufficiant. You can still race drag with a manual...

Do you know how much power the stock auto transmission soaks up. There was a thread on the 'Link forums where it was something to the degree of 100hp or so on a gt40 car. These things aren't exactly powerglides.

Go with the 5 speed. You'll appreciate it so much more overall. I, personally, like the idea of control. Kahl is right about the power robbing Auto tranny. I would talk the guy down. Alot of times, the more stock the car is the better. You'll appreciate building rather than having all the work done for you. It'll give you the edge on really KNOWING your car.

GO 5 SPEED!:talon:

That is low miles on both . When you say nothing done ???? Timing belt ? I would get the manual . But that is my preference .
