I know the price is steep, but it does have a full set of goodies.

However, if you know of a car for sale in my area (Northern VA), I'm ready to check it out.:sneaky:

I'm after a heavily modded but running 95-99 GST or GSX.
The "goodies" are not that great, and most people dont pay for other peoples mods. That is an incredibly retarded price.

+1 on the carfax. Also, just blue book it. Do not pay for any mods. They just degrade the car anyways. (Some can argue differently, but case in point in running rich.)

Blue book. no more, no less.

come on guys dont vent out on each other over the internet pick a time and place and let your cars do the talking, car on car, driver on driver much easier

I don't have a problem with that at all, but living 3k+ miles away makes it a bit difficult.
No hard feelings guys :p

Do I really talk like a 12 yr old?
Oh no, I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight because some guy on a forum called me a 12 yr old. :(

Am I not typing clearly enough, or have I just been gone long enough nobody recognizes my forum name?

Drop the bullshit. Now.

It's a TurboXS RFL bov.

He wouldn't need to change the bov. You would have to remove (unscrew, I believe) the horn part and then you can buy a recirculation adapter. As far as quick/easy fix, not sure.

Just to clarify, the RFL BOV, you can't unscrew the horn... there are a few people out there that have fabbed up there own recirc. kit for it, but it seems to be a PITA with some leak issues. I would say to get that car running right, you're going to want to just replace that BOV.

Here's a link to a better pic of it TurboXS

Thanks so much for all your help!!

I haven't purchased the car from the seller so I am just hoping for the seller to be able to address the smoking/ running rich issue before I drop $ on this thing.

From what I know, the engine was completely rebuilt and has -

16G TURBO- EVO III MANIFOLD-650CC INJECTORS-WALBRO FUEL PUMP-APEX INTERCOOLER- HAHN PIPING- BLITZ NUR SPEC EXHAUST - GREDDY PROFEC B BOOST CONTROLLER, APEX S-AFC.

Make SURE you ask WHO it was rebuilt by. i just bought my car a month ago by a guy that also says the motor was rebuilt and its BAAAADDD. smoke comming out the oil dip stick tube and out the breather hose. found out that the block was rebuilt but NOT the head. so the head still has a hefty 100k miles on it....

do your best to get as much information as you humanly possibly can when buying a used car. trust me, im paying the price...

I wouldn't buy that car for the sole reason that the BOV is vented. If the owner did not have the common knowledge to recirculate the BOV, in what other areas/mods are things going to be wrong? Buying a modded car is risky but you can tell how well it was modded by the little details. If you can tell they cut one corner, i gaurantee they cut more. Ask for receipts and for work he cant prove was done, tell him to knock it off the price. It would suck to invest 11k into someone else's problem.

If you check the car out in person follow the guide on this site for buying a used dsm. Its a sticky or FAQ or Tech article...just search for it.

i also just bought a 97 gsx with::::::::: garrett 60-1 turbo, greddy profec II dsbc, apexi tt, greddy fmic, greddy bov, crower rods, weisco pistons ,hks 280 cams and all headwork, balanced and lightened crank, and alot more mods................................. LET IT BE KNOWN.... NOT ALWAYS GOOD TO BUY SOMEONE ELSES MODDED CAR. mine also vented to the atmosphere. stock injectors and safc on that size turbo is crazy . ran great first 100 miles. now new turbo, dsmlink, injectors are on the way. not including i had to take trans and engine out due to being worried that the motor did not have all the stuff that they said it had. thank god for me, it did have everything that the kid said. luckily i paid only 4,500.00 for this ride

also, a great condition gs-t goes for about 5 - 7 thousand. your paying double. don't just jump into one cause you want it now. wait and look, you'll find one way better for alot less. try ebay i've seen some nice ones go for decent prices

To everyone suggesting a GSX - that was what I was originally looking for as I'm a big fan of the AWD. So far, I haven't found any that I would buy.

Joe Sobo - you're right, I am about ready to jump into one becasue I want it now, but I have been looking for ~ 2 years now. I'm just tired of waiting. The cars I have run across simply DO NOT RUN.

nytescion - I will check out that site, thanks.

DSMinn0vati0ns - I'd like to take a look at your car - pics and asking price? Feel free to email me at [email protected]. Your route to harrisonburg will take you past 66, which I am ~ 20 minutes away from.

Thanks so much for all of your input. I think you've helped me avoid a costly mistake. Also, the guy told me yesterday that they did not want to fix the car but that they would let it go for $9500. I'll keep looking, though.

I paid 12,000 for my gsx with most of the mod's in my sig. Six bolt swapped 2.3 with a gt30r. There are alot of risk's in buying a car that is already heavily modified. Just do your homework and be extra carefull. With my job and family, I just wouldn't have been able to invest all of the time and money it would have taken to get a completely stock car to where mine is today. I used to own a gst many years ago and promised myself that I'd get a GSX if I could do it all over again and that's what I did. Just be patient and wait for an awd.

$11,000 is alot for that gs-t. i paid $8000 for my 1998 Gs-t with 86,000 miiles a little over a month ago and it came with a few goodies as well. so if i were you i would keep searching around a bit more. also would you get a warranty on the car or is it a private dealer?

It's a private dealer...no warranty. $9500 for a car that chokes and smokes at WOT - I'll stay away.

Ok, since my insurance company doesnt want to pay to repair my quarter panel, and my employer is arguing with me about it, I am thinking of totalling my eclipse out and buying it back from my company, then using whatever cash is left over to buy another DSM. I have found one locally, but it needs a throwout bearing and a coil pack. It is already modded and is stock turbo. I have an appointment to check it out Sunday. What do you guys think? Link to listing is provided as follows: 91 TSi

Any insight would be appreciated, as well as links to replacing the throwout bearing.

Thanks,

Brian

Also, if any of the Levittown/Bristol people would like to accompany me for a look see, please contact me...could use a knowledgeable (SP?) DSMer to help me out. Pm me for a phone number

Brian, not a bad price for a good runner. You've probably heard it before but here are some 'hot spots' to look at:

1. Make sure you can get 1st, 5th and reverse...it might be more than a throwout bearing (bad short throw or the clutch. Heavy ACT kits can act like this)
2. Run a sight line down the body...make sure the horizontal wheel gaps are right and the body damage is limited to the doors.
3. Is the rear diff an LSD? Ask if you can jack up the rear and check it if you can. (also 3 or 4 bolt diff?)
4. See if a buddy can follow you while you test drive and check for smoke out the tailpipe.
5. Go through he normal checks...water in oil, rough idle (vac leak), HVAC, wipers, ect)

As far as the throwout bearing, the vast majority of the work is pulling the trans. I'm guessing he installed the ACT clutch and didn't replace the bearing at the same time.
It's a big job regardless.

If everything he says is true, this could be a good car to start on.

i wouldnt say its a big job, but its time consuming but pretty straight forward. i'd say its worth it. use ## car for parts !
